Key Responsibilities:

  • Audit & Assurance Engagements:
  • Lead and manage the planning, execution, and completion of audit and assurance engagements for a diverse range of clients, including private and public companies, not-for-profits, and other industries.
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements in compliance with Canadian GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), and other applicable frameworks.
  • Supervise and manage the execution of audit programs, ensuring that all audit procedures are carried out effectively and efficiently.
  • Client Relationship Management:
  • Serve as the main point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong, trusted relationships.
  • Advise clients on financial and business matters, including compliance, accounting policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
  • Actively identify opportunities for additional services and communicate these to clients.
  • Team Leadership & Development:
  • Lead and mentor audit staff, providing training, guidance, and performance feedback.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to review engagement progress and resolve any issues or challenges.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative work environment by encouraging professional development and knowledge sharing.
  • Quality Control & Risk Management:
  • Ensure that audit work is performed in accordance with Canadian Auditing Standards (CAS) and internal quality control procedures.
  • Review audit files, ensuring that all issues are adequately addressed and that the work completed meets professional and firm standards.
  • Identify and manage audit risks throughout the engagement, escalating significant matters to senior management when necessary.
  • Business Development:
  • Participate in business development activities to generate new client leads and expand existing relationships.
  • Assist in writing proposals for new audit and assurance services, including scope, timelines, and fees.
  • Continuous Learning & Improvement:
  • Stay current with developments in accounting standards, auditing practices, and regulatory changes.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior staff on technical matters and evolving industry trends.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the team and across the firm.
  • Reporting & Communication:
  • Review and sign-off on the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
  • Present audit findings and recommendations to clients, ensuring they understand key financial issues and implications.
  • Prepare and review detailed financial reports, presenting them to management and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • A CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation is required.
  • Completion of the CPA Assurance or Audit stream is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in audit, with at least 2 years in a management or supervisory role in a public accounting firm.
  • Strong technical expertise in Canadian GAAP, IFRS, and auditing standards (CAS).
  • Proven experience managing multiple audit engagements and leading teams of junior staff.
  • A track record of successful client management and the ability to communicate complex technical information effectively.

  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to provide actionable insights to clients.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting software (e.g., CaseWare, Engagement, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Other Requirements:
  • Ability to travel to client sites as needed.
  • A proactive approach to client service and relationship building.
