The Parkway Retirement Community is a retirement community specially designed for older adults seeking independent living with some on-site support. It is located at 85 and 95 Paget Street and is owned and operated by Marwest Management Canada Ltd. This Health Resource Coordinator position is full-time and responsible for the assessment and evaluation of the residents at The Parkway. The main focus is on advocacy for residents in order that they obtain the assistance they need to live as independently as possible.

Qualifications

A health care background (2-5 years working with seniors preferred). Knowledge and understanding of the aging process. Assessment skills related to health care needs. Preference given to health care education. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Computer knowledge is considered an asset. A City of Winnipeg Police Check is mandatory. A provincial or out of province police check may be required.

Qualities

The ability to work in a team setting and provide leadership in advocating for residents in terms of fulfilling their health-related needs. Individual initiative and flexibility. Excellent interpersonal communication skills particularly with older adults.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall facilitation and advocacy of the health needs of residents.
  • Assess and evaluate the physical, emotional, and spiritual health needs of residents.
  • Coordinate the establishment of a support network to assist residents in meeting their needs.
  • Inform and orient residents regarding information and services available.
  • Assist residents and their families to obtain necessary health care information and in the understanding of this information.
  • Follow-up intervention with individual residents as needed.
  • Assist the Recreation Coordinator in assessing residents as to their abilities, interests, and participation in activities.
  • Maintain a working relationship with external visiting health services and other community resources.
  • Report to the Executive Director regarding any unusual or difficult situations in respect to any resident.
  • Co-operate with other staff in the delivery of services to residents.
  • Maintain on-going development in the area of health programming for the older adult by reading pertinent materials, attending workshops, etc.
  • Represent the organization both formally and informally in a professional manner.
  • Responsible for coverage of reception daily for lunch and recreation when staff away.
  • Carry on other relevant tasks that may occur from time to time as directed by the Executive Director.
