Summary of the Role
  1. Collaborate with hydraulic design engineers, designers and project teams in the development of turbine designs within technical specifications and cost optimization requirements over project cycles.
  2. Execute mechanical analysis (stress and strains) using analytical methods and engineering software.
  3. Use building codes, internal design standards and engineering knowledge for turbine component dimensioning and to determine analyses boundary conditions and loads.
  4. Elaborate technical specification and engineering instructions within internal design protocols and industry requirements.
  5. When necessary, use and develop techniques such as finite element analysis, analysis of vibrations, fatigue analysis, fracture mechanics, etc.
  6. Under the supervision of a technical supervisor, prepare specialized technical reports and advise on the mechanical behaviour of various components.
  7. Participate in development and maintenance of design rules and tools.
  8. Provide technical support for manufacturing and installation of hydraulic turbines.
  9. Participate in problem solving, root cause analysis and design review.
  10. Define tools and approach to be used when developing practical and innovative solutions to technical problems.
Competencies and Skills
  1. Professional Engineer registered with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  3. More than 2 years of experience in mechanical design and rehabilitation for welded components for heavy and/or rotating industry.
  4. Interest in technical work, engineering solution research and continuous improvement.
  5. High ability in written and oral interpersonal communications and teamwork.
  6. Bilingual (French, English).
  7. Ability to work independently.
  8. Available for occasional displacement within Canada or worldwide.
Assets
  1. Master degree in sciences, mechanical engineering.
  2. Knowledge about hydroelectric turbines and their components.
  3. Site work experience.
  4. Experience in mechanical design, 3D modelling (Siemens NX, Catia, Solidworks, etc.).
  5. Studies or experience in finite element analysis (static, dynamic, non-linear, etc.) and result validation.
  6. Knowledge of programming languages: VBA, Python and/or Ansys Mechanical APDL.

Legal status to work in Canada required.
