We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Turnaround Technical Coordinator to join our team


This is a site secondment position located in Redwater, AB. The term is immediately until April 30, 2025, at which time it may be extended, workload dependent.


What are we looking for?

Reporting to our client’s Turnaround (TA) team, the TA Technical Coordinator is accountable to ensure all related technical activities for Turnarounds are completed correctly and efficiently. The TA Technical Coordinator is the technical focal point for pre-Event planning, Event execution, and post-Event activities. This position is accountable for all technical deliverables required for TAs and provides direction to all technical resources seconded for each TA Event. This position is a key member of the Engineering Services and Turnaround Teams, accountable to coordinate all Engineering Services disciplines and Inspection deliverables, as well as interface to address overlapping activities with Process Engineering activities (such as cleaning and pigging requirements).


Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Ensure the development and approval of the preliminary and finalized related technical work lists;
  • Ensure technical input to the scope of work and the execution plan is supported, as required;
  • Review previous TA data to ensure the Unit Teams are aware of any outstanding items for their follow-up actions;
  • Participate in scope challenge sessions and ensure scope are adequately justified;
  • Facilitate all technical follow up actions on behalf of stakeholder groups;
  • Ensure the reviews of contractor’s quality control system and ITPs to ensure compliance with client standards;
  • Ensure alignment between MOC work and the Event;
  • Ensure all Engineering Work Packages and technical deliverables are issued and received as per milestones;
  • Ensure technical staff has adequate training for the Event and ensures the TA Technical Team thoroughly understands the scope of work;
  • Prepare the work schedule for the TA Technical Team to ensure coverage is available as required;
  • Review vessel sign off requirements, ensures clear definition and understanding, and ensures ITP’s properly reflect required sign-offs where required;
  • Explore and implement opportunities to improve compliance to Turnaround objectives (safety, quality, schedule, cost) and actively promotes a positive safety attitude with the TA Technical Team;
  • Coordinate the technical resources to ensure engineering work progresses smoothly, minimizing Event schedule impacts;
  • Ensure all quality assurance and control activities for Engineering Services are identified and completed, including PSSR technical deliverables completion prior to re-commissioning;
  • Ensure that Inspection Plans, Inspection Tasks and Repair Plans have been reviewed and approved to meet turnaround objectives; utilizes internal and external networks to resolve sensitive repair strategies;
  • Monitor quality assurance ITP’s to ensure proper review, witness and hold points are established as per the engineering packages and are reflected in the Event schedule.
  • Ensure technical participation in material substitutions and ensure spec deviations and follow-up plans are developed;
  • Facilitate the scope change management process;
  • Gather input from TA Technical Team for lessons learned items and participates in the post-Event Lessons Learned sessions;
  • Ensure all technical related data during the Event is collected, assessed and documented, and issues the post-Event Technical report;
  • Facilitate Process Engineering involvement for activities, such as equipment cleaning, pigging, soda ash wash requirements, etc.;
  • Facilitate effort for the development of generic repair packages and anticipated repair plans;
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of turnaround delivery methods, practice and legislation;

  • Must be a team player willing to continuously and proactively collaborate, share, and seek information and guidance;
  • Must have strong investigative skills and an ability to ask questions to draw out required information.
  • Understands, creates, and maintains a visible commitment to process and personal safety, as well as the safety of others; adheres to client’s objectives to drive results and culture;
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment and piping in an oil refinery unit is required;
  • Demonstrated abilities to develop effective working relationships, work in collaborative team environments, communicate effectively (written and verbal), and manage multiple competing priorities;
  • Strong attention to detail with a demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines;
  • Knowledgeable with the jurisdictional requirements for pressure equipment in the Province of Alberta
  • Experience managing execution of small to medium-size multi-disciplinary capital projects is an asset.
