Quality Assurance Manager

NWI Precision specializes in high-precision machining of helicopter masts, turbine shafts, engine thrust links, and nuclear pressure vessel components used in the aerospace and nuclear industries worldwide. NWI Precision's 120,000 sq. ft. facility is located at 9 Fenmar Drive in Toronto. Our dedicated team prides themselves on delivering the highest quality products, to specifications and on time. NWI Precision is currently seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Manager.
The Quality Assurance Manager mentors and supervises a team of Quality Engineers and is responsible for related business deliverables. Key accountabilities of this role are to provide direction to team members, support functional objectives, align milestones in support of product deliveries and new product introduction and support the overall quality program, including QMS. The position reports to Director of Quality, NWI Precision.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Mentor and supervise Senior Quality Engineers / Quality Engineers handling various customers programs.
- Provide function leadership in collaboration with Inspection, Engineering, Operations and Program Managers.
- Work with leadership in recommending work-load allocation, addressing business needs and continuous employee development/engagement.
- Represent team in various initiatives such as NPI, customer product reviews, cross-functional RRCAs and relevant management meetings.
- Manage priorities, communicate status and ensure team members, particularly new individuals, are mentored and supported.
- Develop credibility across the organization as the focal for Quality Engineering and maintain functional effectiveness with team's support.
- Lead appropriate customer or internal issues, provide timely escalation and visibility to Director of Quality, as needed.
- Prepare, implement and maintain quality plans for production processes for new and existing products, following APQP or similar framework.
- Manage First Article Inspection Reporting (FAIR) processes, including submissions to customers and maintain change control.
- Work in conjunction with Engineering and Operations to ensure that required quality controls are implemented and followed.
- Implement methods to inspect, test, evaluate and continuously improve the reliability of manufacturing processes, products and production equipment.
- Facilitate data collection and failure analysis, conduct RCA and implement corrective and preventive actions to respond to existing and potential issues.
- Support qualification and auditing of new and existing vendors. Improve quality processes and procedures and assist with audit CARs.
- Assist with AS9100 Quality Management System maintenance, including training, documentation reviews and audits. Support customer assessments and timely closure of actions.
- Facilitate review of non-conformance reports (NCRs) by QEs. Ensure that NCRs are completed correctly and that corrective actions (8Ds) are effectively actioned to prevent recurrence.
- Coordinate MRB dispositions with cross-functional input where applicable, submit non-conforming requests to customers and work with Engineering/Customer on NCR dispositions.
- Assist Director of Quality with KPI tracking (Cost of Quality, Yields, Concessions, RCCA closure etc.) and execution of improvement plans.
EDUCATION:
- University degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline.
- ASQ certifications such as CQE, CQM or CQA preferred.
- Exposure to Six Sigma or Black/Green Belt Body of Knowledge strongly preferred.
QUALIFICATION:
- Ability to meet registration requirements of Controlled Goods Program (CGP)
- Able to work in Canada, Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Ability to occasionally travel to US or internationally
EXPERIENCE KNOWLEDGE:
- Minimum 5-8 years of work experience in a highly regulated Quality environment
- Experience in aerospace or nuclear settings preferred; min. 3-5 years of supervisory experience
- Strong knowledge of FAI, 8Ds, Process Capability, PPAP, APQP, FMEA and/or Nuclear methodologies
- Prior roles in precision machining or similar, and exposure to related inspection and NDT methods is ideal
- Familiarity with AS 9100 / TS 16949 / N299 quality system requirements
- Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Relevant certifications in Lean/Six Sigma a plus
