Title: Project Manager
Location: Edmonton Preferred and open to Calgary
Duration: 09 Months Contract (with possibility of extension)
This position is responsible for the management of projects within the client's major project's portfolio. While working closely with various internal and external stakeholders, the project manager ensures the safe, on time, on budget and on quality execution of projects they are accountable for.
Specific Accountabilities:
• Provide leadership and stewardship for the safe, on time, on budget, on quality execution of projects
• Provide active support during project development
• Ensuring the successful completion of deliverables and services throughout the project lifecycle, by working with both internal and external stakeholder to establish resourcing and ongoing project support. Stakeholders include, but are not limited to:
o Safety and Reliability (including Environment and Lands and ROW), Project Sponsor, Projects Management, Project Operations Management, Project Development, Business Partners, Legal, Regulatory, Supply Chain Management, Public Affairs and Communications, Contractors, and Consultants
• Develop and communicate timely updates on project status and performance
• Actively track project progress and performance to plan and take necessary proactive actions to correct adverse situations or trends
• Identify, manage and communicate risk through proactive stakeholder engagement
• Manage project close-out and turnover to the Business Unit
• Provide project management skills and knowledge
• Hold functional leads accountable for executing their strategy
• Provide direction to functional leads for project day-to-day activities and priorities
• Identify and execute project solutions for business units that achieve yearly cost reductions without negative safety, environment, reputational, operational or quality impacts.
• Manage project commercial and contractual transactions
• Facilitate pre-construction meetings, stakeholder progress update meetings, deliverable reviews, lessons-learned, etc.
• Tracks service performance, provides performance feedback, and evaluates change requests
• Ensures regulatory approvals and material testing requirements are met
Scope/Dimensions:
• Safety critical role - daily activities and decisions that directly impact the safety of others
• Operational and Capitally funded projects that range from $1MM to $500MM
• 1-10 projects of various size
• Complex regulatory, external stakeholder relationship and project requirements
Contacts (Working Relationships):
• Work closely with Projects management and support services to achieve project goals and milestones
• Interface with project sponsors, internal stakeholders, vendors, consultants, contractors and operations staff
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Required:
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, or technical diploma from an accredited technical institute, or minimum of 2 years of project management, engineering management, or construction management.
• Minimum of 7 years or more of progressively complex overall related experience
• Must have exposure to Engineering, Construction and Field operations
• Familiar with industry codes, regulations, standards and specifications
• General understanding of pipeline and terminal operations
• Predict obstacles, challenges and risks to proactively determine mitigation strategies and innovative solutions to problems
• Excellent oral and written communications skills
• Problem solving, decision-making, organization, planning and leadership skills
• Collaborative, team- and service-oriented work style
• Motivated self-starter who works well independently in a fast-paced team environment
• Valid driver's license
Preferred:
• Exposure to more than one Engineering discipline
• PMP Certification
Working Conditions:
• Office environment with some field work required
• Scheduled travel to operating facilities, construction sites, and manufacturer's facilities (up to 25%)
• Available outside normal work hours to address any technical, cost, safety and environmental issues that occur during active projects
