Our reputable client in the construction industry is hiring an Estimating Manager that plays a crucial role in overseeing the entire estimating process and leading the estimating team. This position is responsible for developing accurate cost estimates, managing bidding processes, and ensuring the successful completion of construction estimates that lead to awarded projects.


This is a permanent fulltime role, based out of their Ottawa office (fully onsite).


Key Responsibilities


  • Managing and developing the estimating team, assigning responsibilities, and providing training and support
  • Overseeing the creation of detailed budgets, estimates, and scopes of work for construction projects
  • Critically analyzing bid documents to identify risks and opportunities, communicating findings to management
  • Preparing accurate pricing estimates, including labor, material, and subcontract items
  • Soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids and material supplier quotation
  • Developing and maintaining standardized procedures and processes for estimating deliverables
  • Collaborating with contractors, engineers, and architects to ensure estimate accuracy and conformity to contract requirements
  • Work with estimating team to assign estimates/clients/resources to estimators based on workload
  • Assess opportunities and liase with Operations to determine whether to bid each project
  • Track department in PowerBI
  • Use PowerBI dashboard to make decisions on tenders/clients/fee etc.
  • Lead weekly estimating meeting with participation of VP Operations Estimators
  • Manage and focus the estimators on accurate bidding and targeting tenders for success
  • Manage supplier and sub-contract relationships to ensure we are getting the best pricing


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management
  • 15+ years’ experience in construction estimating and project management
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills are essential for success in this role
  • Have or develop an in-depth knowledge of labour methods/materials for Drywall, Concrete, Carpentry
  • Excellent relationships with sub-contractors and material suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and advantages
  • Be prepared to estimate to assist the team during high volumes
  • Lead the creation and submission of prequals for clients
  • Generate written content to meet prequalification standards including schedules
  • Review PO’s and sign for all subcontractors and major materials issued at start-up
  • Have sufficient knowledge of estimating software to understand limitations and review estimates
  • Knowledge of competition for GC, Concrete, Drywall, International work
  • Experience with fillings gaps between subtrade quotes at closing
  • Experience at ensuring tender submissions are complete (Controls, Electrical for Controls, Commissioning, Materials Testing, 3rd Party Engineers etc.)
