The Role

Purpose of the Backup and Disaster Recovery Operations Manager Role
As Backup and Disaster Recovery (BDR) Operations Manager, you will oversee all operational run aspects of our BDR team and services, ensuring that backup and disaster recovery services and the supporting processes are executed efficiently and effectively. Your role is pivotal in maintaining operational excellence and delivering reliable BDR services to our clients.

By managing the operational execution of BDR processes and leading a team of BDR specialists and engineers, you will ensure that Ekco consistently delivers high-quality BDR services, enhancing our reputation as a trusted leader in the industry.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Leadership: Lead a team of BDR specialists and engineers, providing guidance, support, and mentorship.
  2. People Management: Setting, tracking and delivering of objectives and OKR’s to ensure high performance.
  3. Operational Management: Oversee the daily operations of BDR processes and technology, ensuring efficiency and reliability in backup and recovery tasks.
  4. MI and Performance Monitoring: Monitor and report on the operational performance of BDR services and systems, working with the team in identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
  5. Incident Management: Escalation and leading the response to backup and recovery incidents, coordinating with relevant teams and resources to ensure swift resolution.
  6. Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve BDR processes and procedures to enhance service delivery.
Engage with the Role

In this role, you will actively contribute by:

  1. Leading Teams: Providing leadership and support to the BDR team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration with a focus on quality.
  2. Managing Operations: Ensuring that all BDR operations are carried out efficiently and effectively.
  3. Improving Processes and Technology: Identifying and implementing process and technology improvements to enhance operational performance.
  4. Handling Incidents: Key escalation point, leading the response to incidents and ensuring timely resolution.
  5. Reporting Performance: Monitoring and reporting on the performance of BDR systems and operations.

By leveraging your expertise and delivering on these actions and artifacts, you will not only safeguard our customers' data but also fortify our position as a trusted leader in our industry, making a tangible impact on our success.

Key Requirements
  1. Proven experience in leading and managing technical teams.
  2. 5+ years of experience in technical operations.
  3. Strong knowledge of operational tools and processes.
  4. Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery technologies and processes.
  5. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  6. Strong project management and organisational abilities.
  7. Effective communication and leadership skills.

Bonus points if you have:

  1. Extended or in-depth knowledge of BDR vendor solutions and technologies.
  2. Experience with leading backup and cloud-based backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  3. Knowledge of leveraging automation tools and orchestration platforms to enhance operations.
  4. Vendor-specific certifications (e.g., Veeam Certified Engineer).
  5. Familiarity with data replication, deduplication, and compression techniques.
  6. Knowledge of BDR and supporting technology platforms: Storage, Compute.
