Position Overview

The Director, Strategic Initiatives contributes to the overall success of Global Fraud Management (GFM) by ensuring specific goals, plans, and initiatives are executed in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. This role leads the strategic planning process, develops long-term goals, and aligns projects and initiatives to deliver targeted outcomes against our strategic objectives. The Director will advance how we measure performance and outcomes of strategic planning initiatives, coordinated across GFM to optimize strategy impact and value. With deep fraud subject matter expertise, this role provides advisory support and guidance to senior leadership, consulting on a complex range of topics including industry trends and macro-level future insights.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Leads and drives a client-focused culture by supporting and delivering a winning team and simplifying & delivering strategy throughout their team.
  2. Works with the fraud leadership team to design, develop, monitor, and refine Global Fraud Management’s strategic plan.
  3. Identifies, develops, and refines performance measures and key performance metrics supporting the strategic management process.
  4. Creates and maintains a center of excellence by operating impartially across GFM business teams to connect initiatives and identify optimization opportunities in partnership with Ops.
  5. Coordinates the global view of programs and initiatives supporting strategic goals and objectives, evaluating and monitoring the effectiveness of existing strategies.
  6. Leverages research and insights to identify emerging trends and opportunities for innovation and change.
  7. Gathers, analyzes, and presents GFM employee engagement metrics to drive the delivery of GFM targeted initiatives.
  8. Builds strategic presentations and communications focusing on providing insight into goals, strategy, programs, processes, and vision of executive leadership.
  9. Develops strong relationships with key stakeholders to become a trusted advisor and strategic partner in the identification and execution of transformational and/or continuous improvement initiatives.
  10. Ensures all activities are conducted in accordance with Scotiabank’s values and Code of Conduct and comply with governing regulations and internal policies.
  11. Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Qualifications
  1. 10+ years working in a leadership capacity within payments or a financial services organization.
  2. Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of fraud management including operations, with exposure to threat-intelligence/management, CIAM, and cyber security functions.
  3. A strong communicator with a big picture focus, creative mindset/problem solver, and a strong desire for interacting with leadership, management, employees, and stakeholders.
  4. Consulting experience with a focus on strategy and performance management.
  5. Proven track record of successfully leading strategic planning initiatives and driving organizational growth.
  6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and provide innovative solutions.
  7. Sound strategic planning and project management skills, capable of handling multiple initiatives concurrently.
  8. Excellent presentation skills, with the ability to effectively influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  9. Exceptional leadership and team management abilities, with a focus on fostering a high-performance culture.
  10. Excellent interpersonal skills, able to establish and maintain relationships with internal and external key stakeholders.
  11. Political sensitivity and proven superior consultative, relationship-building, and management skills to drive/direct a shared agenda to successful outcomes.
  12. Bilingualism in Spanish is an asset.
