Mobile Repair Technician Railcar

Role Definition:
The Mobile Repairs Technician is responsible for performing on-site repairs and maintenance of railcars in Edmonton, Alberta. This part-time role offers a flexible schedule, with the potential for full-time employment in the future. The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanical systems related to railcars, but we are also open to developing candidates with the right foundational skills and a strong willingness to learn. A mobile repair vehicle will be provided.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair railcars at various job sites.
- Conduct essential repairs including cutting, aligning, and fixing railcars in compliance with AAR standards.
- Modify and restore railcars and their components as needed to ensure proper operation.
- Execute and record quality assurance checks to maintain company standards.
- Carry out routine preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Ensure all repair and maintenance work adheres to industry standards, safety protocols, and company policies.
- Accurately document all tasks performed, including parts used and time spent on each job.
- Communicate effectively with clients, supervisors, and team members to ensure timely and efficient repairs.
- Manage and maintain tools, equipment, and inventory necessary for mobile repairs.
- Provide emergency repair services as required to minimize operational downtime.
- Engage in continuous training and development to stay updated with industry advancements and best practices.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or diploma in a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience in railcar repair and maintenance is preferred, but we are willing to develop the right candidate.
- Knowledge of freight car repairs and inspection.
- Knowledge of mechanical, or a strong foundational understanding with a willingness to learn.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; must provide driver abstract.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Willingness to travel to various locations within Edmonton and surrounding areas.
- Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, climbing, and working in various weather conditions.
- Flexibility to work part-time hours with the potential for a flexible schedule; Hours per week are dependent on business needs.
- Must become ERAILSAFE certified.
- H2S training and WHMIS training are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with mobile repair services.
- Certification in welding.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to develop new skills and competencies in railcar repair.
