Position SummaryThe After-Hours Community Response Worker provides direct, street-level support and intervention to individuals who are vulnerable or at risk after hours from 7pm to 3am. This includes welfare checks, crisis response, overdose prevention, and facilitating access to essential services such as housing, shelter, healthcare, and transportation. This position requires a calm, compassionate, and professional approach to working in unpredictable environments while ensuring personal and participant safety.Key Duties and Responsibilities Conduct outreach in identified areas (downtown core, encampments, and community spaces) to connect with individuals requiring support. Build trusting, non-judgmental relationships with participants while maintaining professional boundaries. Provide harm reduction supplies, food, clothing, and transportation assistance as needed. Conduct wellness and safety checks for vulnerable individuals, including those sleeping outdoors or in unsafe conditions. Offer crisis intervention and de-escalation for individuals in distress or crisis situations. Support individuals in accessing shelter, medical care, detox, or other emergency services. Maintain consistent presence and visibility to promote safety and trust within the community. Administer naloxone and first aid as required. Adhere to AWACs safety protocols, including staff check-ins and mobile safety procedures. Report critical incidents, hazards, or concerns promptly to management. Promote community safety while upholding participant dignity and rights. Maintain detailed, accurate records of all outreach contacts, referrals, and incidents.Qualifications Diploma or Certificate in Human Services, Social Work, Addictions, or related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and lived experience). Minimum two (2) years of experience in outreach, crisis response, or front-line support roles. Strong knowledge of harm reduction, trauma-informed practice, and cultural safety. Proven ability to collaborate with emergency services and community partners. Knowledge of local resources, including health, housing, and addiction recovery supports. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills. Ability to maintain composure and sound judgment in high-stress or unpredictable environments. Valid First Aid, CPR, and Naloxone certification required. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) or equivalent training an asset. Valid Class 5 Drivers License, clean drivers abstract, and reliable vehicle required. Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.CompensationThis position requires union registration and therefore all benefits and wages are set by the followed collective agreements.
