Reporting to the Manager, Business Planning and Performance, the Innovation & Performance Lead will lead work related to business efficiency, standardization and proper resourcing of operations and the services it provides to clients in the Employee and Legal Service Division and the Office of the Chief Communications Officer Branch.

The Innovation & Performance Lead offers highly specialized expertise on the continuous improvement of processes, procedures, projects and programs.

The position also contributes to the development of performance measures, data analytics and reporting, including the development of departmental reports and dashboards.


What will you be doing?

  • Using advanced client relationship skills, corporate awareness, and design thinking, lead business case development of branch and departmental programs and practices, including the ongoing use of business management software and corporate revenue opportunities
  • Lead the analysis of information, including policies, procedures, guidelines, workflows, process maps, reports and data visualizations, and provide strategic and operational input, business analysis, assessment and recommend changes to ongoing operations and services delivered to clients
  • Lead process mapping, process development and documentation that supports best practice and continuous improvement methodology and documentation standards
  • Identify and recommend future innovations at the section, branch and departmental levels
  • Develop and implement consistent quality control and assurance programs
  • Lead the development and implementation of consistent and repeatable performance measures that can be compared with internal and external benchmarks
  • Perform coaching and support for the purpose of monitoring, providing feedback, assisting with complex issues and resolving conflicts
  • Build strong internal and external client relationships

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Business Administration or a related discipline preference at the Master's level
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible, combined experience in strategic and operational business planning, corporate performance measures and budgets and business case development

Skills Required for Success:

  • Public sector leadership and project management experience is an asset, as is certification or coursework/training in change management, project management, continuous improvement and/or other leadership training
  • Full cycle project management skills with a demonstrated ability to establish, direct and motivate staff to deliver projects in a timely manner and to manage multiple projects/processes concurrently and proactively
  • Experience developing and implementing complex projects and processes across diverse lines of business
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact well with a diverse group of leaders, colleagues, staff and citizens
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing change, building organizational talent, collaborating for results and empowering resources to achieve outcomes
  • Advanced level knowledge of data collection, results analysis and presentation/reporting techniques
  • Excellent written communication and report writing skills, including report and business case writing
  • Demonstrated systems thinking and systems design skills with the ability to think strategically
  • Experience with recruitment, coaching, performance development and conflict resolution

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
