Duties and Responsibilities:


Responsible for work coordination through both University and contract staff, for effective and efficient maintenance and operation of all access control systems.

Also responsible for managing the various access control projects for access control and security monitoring systems, including cameras and intrusion alarms.


Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Knowledge of operational management and leadership concepts practices including
- program/service delivery models, policy development, planning, budgeting, performance measurement management, and human resources

  • Knowledge of facility operations, architectural and access services program design, delivery, assessment, and evaluation methodologies, processes, and practices
  • Knowledge of relevant governing legislation, collective agreements, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of office as well as the broader university academic units, departments, and divisions
  • Knowledge of cultural competency and diversity
  • Ability to maintain all related access control system files/asbuilts/priority lists/trouble shooting records/material orders and job quotations current.
  • Completely fluent in the use of schematics, plans, and blue print reading and working with and creating engineering drawings
  • Ability to maintain/backup the Delta Access Control database.
  • Familiar with the use, implementation, modification and operation of the CableSolve equipment/wire inventory database management system.
  • Must be able to successfully complete CBORD Squadron Installation Certification as well as the CBORD CS Access with Action and Response Management course within twelve (12) months of start date.
  • Good working knowledge of fibreoptic network communication technology and local area network.
  • Strong electronics and controls experience as well as a very good understanding of more complex door lock hardware components.
  • Full understanding of all door assembly hardware and have the ability to combine the various door operation components, ensuring full and proper automated operation and access control including barrier free equipment, card access controls and fire system integration etc.
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of all trade related power tools and equipment.
  • Familiarity with required security measures as they relate to preventing and maintaining property damage including the supply and installation of theft prevention hardware etc.
  • Aptitude to learn and keep up to date with technology, to help ease transition to other technologies as required.
  • Ability to effectively supervise people and the projects being carry out.
  • Act decisively to translate plans and strategies into concrete action plans.
  • Build, motivate and leads teams, to develop and sustain partnerships in order to achieve objectives and goals.
  • Analyzes and resolves work issues, and to develop innovative solutions to problems involving resources, scheduling, technical and other difficulties.
  • Effective project management skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, customer service, organizational, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work alone and with limited supervision while performing access control related duties

Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

  • College technologist diploma in electrical, electronic, or computer engineering
  • Minimum of five years of previous experience in automation controls and/or access control systems including three years of management and leadership experience
