Position Overview:

  • Provides instruction to participants in a variety of fitness disciplines. Looking for fitness instructors who are available to instruct classes evenings and weekends starting in the fall. Position will start with 1 to 2 programs per week during the fall session. A group fitness certification is required.***
    Responsibilities:
  • Prepares and conducts appropriate program for participants following required standards.
  • Demonstrates and instructs assigned activities and techniques using established teaching methodology and procedures; provides feedback to participants.
  • Explain and ensures safety rules and regulations governing sports, recreation activities and the use of equipment are followed.
  • Assembles supplies and equipment as required.
  • Completes record and reports including class attendance and accident/incident reports. Distributes applicable forms and program information.
  • Ensures safe use, condition and storage of any equipment.
  • Responds to participants immediate concerns and or needs and provides customer service.
  • Acts as a liaison between the facility and participants.
  • Provides first aid as required.
  • Please specify the type of group fitness program(s) you are able to instruct.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Possess a high school diploma and current technical and practical training in a specific discipline as outlined above and/or be a certified fitness or certified wellness instructor.
  • Minimum of one year of related experience.
  • Have the ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
  • Be able to work flexible hours including daytime, evening, weekends, and holidays, depending on the needs of the program.
  • Have demonstrated experience providing instruction within a program setting.
  • Have demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication (written and oral), customer service, and behaviour management skills.
  • Provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
    at your own expense as a condition of employment.
  • Valid CPR Level "C" and Emergency First Aid Certificate, or willing to obtain prior to employment.
  • Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
  • Please note that as per Human Resources Policy _HUMHIR_110, "Employment of Relatives of Staff Members and Elected Officials":_
- "The immediate relatives of staff of the Human Resources Division, all _Directors,_ General Managers_, or the Chief Administrative Officer and Elected Officials shall not be employed by the City in any capacity._

  • The immediate relatives of all other Management personnel shall not be employed where such employment would be:_
  • 1. within the same Department in the case of permanent fulltime, temporary full_time and parttime classifications._
