Primary Focus


The Drug and Related Products Advisor, reporting to the Manager, Strategic Projects, is responsible for conceptualizing, developing, delivering, and monitoring initiatives to support CDA-AMC in the development of a national formulary list of essential prescription drugs and related products.

The advisor will collaborate with provincial and territorial health ministry staff, Health Canada representatives, CDA-AMC expert and advisory committee members, and internal CDA-AMC employees to identify policy issues and develop strategic solutions.

The advisor will develop and lead strategic approaches to address project-related issues in collaboration with the Manager, Strategic Projects.

What do the daily responsibilities look like?

On any given day, the Drug and Related Products Advisor will:

  • lead activities related to planning through the execution of the strategic project, including drafting and reviewing documents (e.g., briefing notes, presentations, reports)
- engage, develop, and work in concert with health partners, organizations, and internal staff to correlate their perspectives, align opportunities to create synergies, identify necessary resources and shape appropriate business planning documentation to successfully execute CDA-AMC strategic projects and to ensure a forward momentum of priority initiatives
- attend and/or lead relevant internal and external meetings to maintain awareness and contribute to project deliverables, as required
- lead the work of the panel and expert groups relevant to the project. Provide advice on health-related content, including issues related to the proposed list of drugs and related products, preparing questions or reports for panel and others, where applicable
- establish and foster working relationships; consult and facilitate information sharing (e.g., develop and recommend action plans and communication strategies to ensure effective communication of system requirements and information); develop consensus, identify concerns, resolve planning and business issues, and ensure consistency of approach and integration with CDA-AMC mandate, strategic directions, procedures, and processes
- monitor overall project success, internal and external engagement, and identify and make recommendations to leadership team about mitigation of risks for the project.

Is this the right role for you?

The Drug and Related Products Advisor will likely have:

  • degree in pharmacy or pharmacology, with at least 5 years of work experience related to the pharmaceutical sector and/or equivalent experience in a pharmaceutical policy-related advisory role
- proven experience in strategy development and program operations
- strategic insight, strong analytical skills, and demonstrable experience in solving complex problems
- politically astute with the ability to negotiate through conflict and mobilize support
- knowledge of provincial and federal health procedures related to the approval and reimbursement of drugs
- knowledge of and demonstrated experience with current and emerging issues within the broader health care sector
- ability to prioritize and multitask to deliver results efficiently and accurately in a high-pressure environment with tight performance targets
- excellent written and verbal communication skills
- internal and external relationship management skills, and an ability to interact effectively with colleagues and partners at the provincial and/or national level
- adaptability, flexibility, diplomacy, and tact
- being proactive and well organized.
