Position Details:

Locations: Palliser Central Office, Lethbridge, AB / Holy Spirit St. Basil Catholic Education Centre, Lethbridge, AB

Anticipated Start Date: August 26, 2024 (or a mutually agreeable date)

Assignment: International Student Program Homestay Coordinator

1.0 FTE @ $23.47/hour

Qualifications:

Business Administration, Educational Assistant Certificate or related experience in the field;

Clean driving record and able to transport students when necessary;

Copy of a current driver's abstract (if successful);

Current Standard First Aid and CPR certificates (Child CPR Certificate is a strong asset).

Responsibilities:

Liaising with both the Palliser and Holy Spirit International Education Departments;

Recruiting host families through all means possible (social media, parishes and school communities, etc.);

Determines the suitability of host families by reviewing applications and conducting home visits;

Coordinates and leads host families through yearly Homestay Orientation meetings;

Follow-up home visits regularly to ensure that circumstances do not change;

Matches students with host families based on information gathered from student applications considering age, gender, cultural background, length of stay and anticipated Canadian experience;

Available to work outside of normal working hours to support students and families who are otherwise busy during the day;

Confirms placement of students with host families and both Palliser and Holy Spirit Divisions;

Confirms arrival/departure information with host family/student and respective parties, as needed;

Supports the maintenance of host family profiles and records;

Supports maintenance of data integrity in the True North database at all times;

Supports individual and group arrival and departure logistics;

Maintains regular contact with the student, host families, and both Palliser and Holy Spirit International Program staff to ensure the cultural, social and emotional integration of the student and facilitate the resolution of issues as they arise;

Supports in changes of host families upon consultation with the Palliser or Holy Spirit International Program team, and acts to complete the changes diplomatically and safely;

Provides ongoing support, conflict resolution and mediation between homestay families and students as required;

Responds to and assesses emergencies as they occur and liaises with school divisions, local agencies, and support services to resolve the issues;

Acts on behalf of both International Student Programs, in fulfillment of their responsibilities for the care and well-being of international students;

Collaborates with the Palliser and Holy Spirit International Program teams as required;

Supports an organizational culture that encourages teamwork for positive outcomes;

Regularly conducts home visits to new and current families (twice per semester) to assess suitability and ensure program standards are maintained;

Supports in the planning of Palliser and Holy Spirit International Program events such as host family potlucks, orientations, field trips etc. with other International Program staff;

Accompanies students on field trips as a chaperone, if necessary;

Collect feedback from international students and Homestay families to enhance student and family experiences within the program

Performs other duties as assigned by either Superintendents or designates within the scope of knowledge, skills and abilities required by this position.
