A temporary full time (1.0) Indigenous Student Success Coordinator is required by School District No.

Functioning in alignment with Local Education Agreements, Equity Scan Action Plan, and the District Strategic Plan, the role of the Indigenous Student Success District Coordinator is to support district-wide initiatives and help strengthen school-based efforts to enhance the academic achievement of Indigenous students.

Your close ties with local Indigenous communities and deep understanding of their cultures will be instrumental in facilitating the success of Indigenous students within the Graduation Program.

Utilizing a strength-based approach informed by both school-specific and district-wide data, in collaboration with school and district personnel, you will identify and address individual as well as systemic barriers hindering Indigenous student success.

Your responsibilities will encompass fostering improvements in instructional techniques and assessment methodologies at middle school and secondary levels, in alignment with the overarching District Strategic Plan.

As an integral part of the educational team, your comprehensive grasp of educational reform, commitment to equity, adept communication skills, fluency in Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods, technological proficiency, and familiarity with the Graduation Program will be essential in supporting educators.

These attributes will also be pivotal in fostering collaborative relationships with fellow team members and the Indigenous representatives of local communities.

Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning. Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging
Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn
Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition
Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning
A master's degree in a program emphasizing Indigenous perspectives or a related field
Completion of courses, programs, or significant learning experiences focused on Indigenous content and perspectives
Application of Indigenous pedagogy in assessment, instruction, and content delivery
Personal dedication to reconciliation and a profound understanding of the impacts of colonization on modern-day teaching and learning
Collaborate closely with principals and school staff, utilizing district data to monitor Indigenous student progress
Track early leavers and participate in planning and implementing re-engagement programs, including co-facilitating community outreach sessions to bridge the gap between Indigenous communities and schools
Provide oversight and support for the development and implementation of learning plans (Learning Journeys) for Indigenous learners
Seek and incorporate advice and guidance from Indigenous community members, including elders and education representatives
Work collaboratively with secondary school staff and administrators to devise and execute strategic models of learning support and interventions aimed at ensuring Indigenous students stay on track toward graduation
Deliver in-service learning sessions to both district and school staff on research-based practices that yield improved outcomes for all learners, with a particular focus on Indigenous students
School-based duties may include:

Collaborating with school-based Indigenous Education teams to provide academic and social/emotional support to students
Ensuring smooth transitions between grades through diligent student tracking and outreach efforts
Assisting students with transitioning from graduation to life beyond high school

2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas.

$2,947 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
