Job Purpose:


The Accounting Officer demonstrates knowledge of day-to-day operations within the unit on Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering Compliance, and Privacy matters, and escalation of such; Understanding the Business Continuity Plan and contributing to its effectiveness.

Responsible for the timely and even distribution of the incoming work; the timely and accurate completion of:

accounting entries; the accurate and timely verification of monetary and non monetary input of source documents to various Bank systems; the surprise verification of output; the verification of timely and accurate reconciliation of suspense accounts residing in the various GLs and Transits: The investigation of and timely response to inquiries received from clients: the assembling of the Accounting Support Package.

He/she promotes and ensures high quality of service, consistent with Scotia Service Standards and Complaint Resolution Standards.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Manage the operational activities performed within the team by:
  • Acquiring and maintaining thorough knowledge of Payments through SMS, Peoplesoft and Smartbuy.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate processing of expenses, invoices, journals and reconciliation of General Ledger Accounts.
  • Ensuring accurate and reliable preparation and processing of accounting entries and the timely investigation and resolution of exceptions and unusual transactions.
  • Actively seeking ways to improve processes achieve greater efficiency and reduce operating expenses.
  • Ensuring correct and timely reporting that meets operational, financial, statistical and statutory requirements.
  • Ensuring timely resolution of AFT items in PEGA/IRIS Systems to minimizes potential losses.
  • Escalate unresolved issues to Management in Global Payment Operations.
  • Prepare Desktop Procedures and follow accordingly to ensure data quality and consistent delivery of service according to established Operating Service Level Agreement.
  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client/partner relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Understands how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in daytoday activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence and effectiveness of daytoday business controls meets obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk. This includes but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook, and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Service and customeroriented attitude
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with internal stakeholders and third parties.
  • Strong business and analytical skills, ability to focus on key issues and solve problems.
  • Selfstarter willing to learn and assume adhoc responsibilities (as required)
  • Works well under pressure and time constraints and can prioritize/balance multiple priorities appropriately
  • Accurate and thorough investigative skills
  • Knowledge of Accounting of financial AFT instruments.
  • Advanced skills in Excel and Word are required.
