The Team Lead, Facility Maintenance is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and renovation of city owned facilities, ensuring they are operated efficiently and safely.

This includes the oversight, planning and scheduling of maintenance tasks, procurement for parts/supplies/vendors and the coordination of maintenance staff or contractors for building and equipment repairs.

Reporting to the Manager, Facility and Utility Operations this position provides leadership, aiding with administrative duties, scheduling, and supervising facilities staff.

The person we're looking for is service focused, has excellent communication skills, and is able to build and maintain positive relationships with city personnel, contractors and the general public.


Key areas of responsibility:

  • Lead the facilities team, providing guidance and support in their daily activities.
  • Manage preventative maintenance programs to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, repairs, and maintenance history with CMMS software
  • Conduct regular inspections of buildings, equipment, and systems to proactively identify any potential issues or areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and contractors for specialized maintenance, repairs or services when required.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair schedules with internal site stakeholders to minimize disruption
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), identify gaps and drive improvement in results
  • Build and manage positive relationships with internal staff and external vendors, contractors and general public
  • Promotes and enforces the health and safety program as well as applicable codes and regulations

Qualifications:

  • Postsecondary education in Business Administration, Engineering or related field.
  • 5 years of facilities maintenance, construction, or repair experience in a commercial or industrial setting
  • 2 years leadership experience
  • A valid Driver's License and a driver's abstract that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behavior
  • Facility, Property or Maintenance Management Accreditations by IFMA, BOMA or PEMAC is considered an asset
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and CMMS Software
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Proven ability to effectively prioritize workload, multitask, and work independently
  • An understanding of procurement and contracts relating to hiring of vendors to oversee facility operational and maintenance project work
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plans
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong negotiation, decision making and problemsolving skills
  • Attention to detail, organizational, planning, and analytical skills
