The Role:


We are looking for a detail-oriented and strategically-minded
Writer/Researcher to join our business development team and work on a wide range of project and research proposals, briefs and oral presentations, under the guidance of the Procurement and Administration Manager and in close collaboration with the executive team.

Project and research proposals are diverse, in line with the wide spectrum of technical and creative capabilities of the Sandbox team and the diversity of social-impact and policy-relevant topics we work on, ranging from education to health of the environment.


Specifically, the role involves:

Strategic market monitoring and analysis (15%)

  • Using various company tools, scan and identify relevant project opportunities.
  • Support the executive team in strategically searching for and identifying funding and partnership opportunities in support of the company's R&D projects.
  • Contribute to conceptualizing and implementing market research and analysis.
  • Participate in meetings with the executive team to present project opportunities or proposal ideas, present market research findings and recommendations.

Research, planning and writing - proposals (60%)

  • Develop proposal strategies, including writing strategy, creative approach and efficiencyfocused practices to deliver high quality proposals within tight timelines.
  • Using company tools and your own digital capacities, structure and organize content in logical and effective ways.
  • Conduct targeted research to inform proposal development across a wide range of socially relevant topics and about a wide range of organizations from educational institutions to government bodies and international organizations.
  • Develop impactful proposals that demonstrate technical excellence, clear communications, and comply with formal submission guidelines.
  • Develop presentations, briefs, and short papers to support the presentation of Sandbox projects to various highprofile audiences including senior government officials, foundations, research institutes and at international conferences.

Research and writing - digital learning and products and media (15%)

  • Support ad hoc primary and secondary research needs, including the development and implementation of key informant interviews, focus groups, surveys, literature reviews, and interjurisdictional scans. As needed, support the implementation of primary research in person or virtually and contribute to the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Support ad hoc writing tasks, from contribution to research reports to development of learning content.

Liaison and collaboration (10%)

  • Proactively identify where to seek expertise from internal team members or external parties as part of project proposal development and project implementation.
  • In collaboration with senior management, develop and implement outreach strategies and tactics to create and maintain relationships and partnerships with experts across various fields and geographies (specifically North America and Europe).
  • Support senior team members in diversity of internal and external meetings through meeting preparation and notetaking.

What You Bring to the Table

  • 1 to 5 years of work experience in a writing, research and analysis role, in academia, government or the private sector.
  • You are a curious and motivated researcher, at ease with sourcing and analyzing extensive information on a wide range of topics.
