Why is this role important?

** This posting may be used to fill multiple Program Specialist positions both permanent and contract across functions within the HWI branch.

The Program Specialist will work within a dynamic, interdisciplinary team involved in the development, implementation, and ongoing support of Pan-Canadian reporting for health workforce information, including nurses, physicians and other healthcare providers. The Program Specialist will participate in the planning, design, development, implementation and evaluation of new standards, products and services to support jurisdictions implementing and/or further strengthening use of health workforce information.

What you'll do

1. Supports the team in the execution of priority projects that support program area, branch and/or corporate priorities or strategic directions.

2. Anticipates, identifies, and supports the needs of key clients and stakeholders for information and education related to CIHI data on healthcare professionals.

3. Participates in the planning, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive range of products and services including education and training that support the collection of CIHI health workforce information and submission of high-quality data to CIHI for pan-Canadian reporting.

4. Participates in the planning, design, development, and delivery of education and capacity-building material (such as presentations, workshops, interactive tools, etc.) for internal and external stakeholders including policy-makers involved in the strategic use of healthcare providers information for quality improvement and planning.

5. Drafts briefing notes and reports, as required. Prepares and delivers presentations in support of CIHI and its strategic directions and priorities.

6. Participates in collaborative partnerships with federal/provincial/territorial ministries of health, health policy organizations, data users, and other key stakeholder groups to ensure the ongoing relevance and quality of the healthcare provider data, outputs, educational programs and services.

7. Develops and produces promotional materials and communication tools.

8. Participates in operational process improvement activities in partnership with all teams in Health Workforce information.

9. Attends conferences and meetings as required.

10. Promotes CIHI products and services.

What you'll bring to the table


• University degree in a health sciences or other discipline

• Three to five years' experience working with health information systems

• Conceptual understanding of health, the health care system, as well as a sound knowledge of health information and its uses for policy development, planning, management, and evaluation purposes.

• Demonstrated expertise in collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and other subject matter experts to gather relevant information to develop and support Program Area activities.

• Demonstrated leadership skills, results oriented, a critical thinker, adaptable, innovative, and flexible.

• Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills.

• Ability to work with minimal supervision; values a team approach.

• Training or experience in adult learning would be an asset

• Fluency in English required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
