Position Summary:

Responsibilities:

  • Accurately process biweekly with weeks alternating between corporations for hourly, salaried, and casual employees.
  • Process and validate payroll expenses, deductions, garnishments and adjustments through the ADP system.
  • Record payroll entries in SAGE ERP 300.
  • Produce annual T4, WCB Reports and other external party reports as required.
  • Reconcile all applicable accounts.
  • Work with Human Resources in processing new hires, rehires, transfers, terminations, and administration of employee benefits.
  • Ensure proper internal controls, system standards, policies, financial controls and audit requirements are met, monitored and maintained.
  • Participate with the annual audit.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and legislative requirements for payroll and benefits.
  • Maintain benefits for individual employees and their files.
  • Other duties related to the position as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • 1+ years' experience producing full cycle payroll, in a large complex organization
  • National Payroll Institute Membership ideal
  • Knowledge of payroll practices, methodologies and procedures required
  • Experience with ADP and/or SAGE 300 ERP would be ideal
  • Familiarity with First Nations culture, history is considered an asset

Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of legislative requirements at the Provincial/Federal levels regarding Employers, Payroll and Benefits Administration
  • Knowledge of tax laws especially as they relate to Indigenous and Non-Indigenous staff working on and off Reserve
  • Ability to implement changes in processes, policies, and/or procedures for improvement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Analytical, decision making, and the ability to recognize challenges, identify causes and provide solutions.
  • Dependability: able to work independently, submit accurate documentation, and seek guidance when needed
  • Receptive: accept feedback, take ownership of responsibilities, and identifies areas of growth
  • Interpersonal Skills: communicates clearly, seek solutions, and demonstrates flexibility
