The Fort Edmonton Park Wardrobe team builds a variety of period pieces.

These pieces are used to bring life to our Park, share history with visitors, entertain guests, and teach visitors from all over the world what it looked like to live in a historical era in Edmonton.


This role will work closely with the Wardrobe Coordinator and Wardrobe Assistant in the Wardrobe Department, which includes wardrobe collection, Indigenous regalia, and wardrobe change facilities.

The Historic Wardrobe Intern will work with the team and volunteers to alter, maintain, and build garments. The Historic Wardrobe Intern may aid in wardrobe collections management tasks including photography, space organization, and inventory management.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • As required assist with costume creation for productions
  • Construct and repair historical garments to prolong their lifespan
  • Assisting in transfer of garments from shop to storage or other areas within the Park
  • Ensuring pieces are laundered according to best practices
  • General upkeep of the wardrobe shop (ex. sweeping and tidying as needed)
  • Work with a variety of materials, historical patterns, and heritage pieces
  • Work with Indigenous regalia, learning customs, protocol, and requirements for the repair and care of these items
  • Other duties as required
  • Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in Wardrobe/Textiles or Theatre; and/or post-secondary students enrolled in a têxtiles or sewing program-
  • Good organizational and time management skills-
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with fluency in English-
  • Good hand and machine sewing skills; experience working with period pieces is not essential but considered an asset-
  • Experience in completing alterations and repairs-
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, walk long distances across the Park, face inclement weather, and climb stairsA criminal record check or criminal record check with vulnerable sector completed may be required for any newly hired employees to FEMCo-
  • All newly hired employees must be eligible to work in Canada for any employer
