Position Overview

  • Our Parks Planning, Design and Development Section of the Parks Department, has a regular fulltime opportunity for a Planning Assistant 3 to join their team. This is technical and administrative planning work to support the Parks Planning team. In this role you will perform a variety of technical and research tasks related to parks planning, policy, bylaw, design, and development projects. Work responsibilities include preparing research reports, summaries, and recommendations based on your findings; developing and conducting data collection (desktop, and infield such as public surveys), and data synthesis and analysis including databases and statistics; assisting with development of public and stakeholder engagement materials, events, and summarizing input and findings.
  • You will be expected to work with staff across various departments, liaise with external contacts, and respond to enquiries from the public. You will assist in the development of key initiatives such as the Parks and Open Space Strategic Plan Update, Natural Areas Trails Strategy, Sports Courts Strategy, Dog Management Strategy, Forest Management Strategy, strategy and plan implementation, and more. You will exercise a considerable degree of independence and initiative in carrying out assignments and work performance is reviewed and evaluated by a superior in terms of technical adequacy, soundness of conclusions and recommendations, and conformance to established practices and procedures.
  • You have a sound knowledge of data collection, modelling, and analysis, and are able to communicate information in graphs, graphics, reports, presentations, and other formats. A high level of competency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is expected, and a working knowledge of other data visualization software (such as Illustrator, In Design, Sketch Up, Photoshop and AutoCAD) is preferred. Complementing your excellent research, analytical and communications skills, you are an effective communicator, a team player with innovative approaches to problem solving, and have the ability to organize and perform assigned work tasks under mínimal supervision.

Compensation
