Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services (NLHS) was formed as an organization on April 1st, 2023, bringing together four former regional health authorities – Eastern Health, Central Health, Western Health, Labrador-Grenfell Health – and the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information. The creation of NLHS was announced by the Provincial Government in Budget 2022, following recommendations from the Health Accord for Newfoundland and Labrador.

NLHS provides a broad range of programs and services to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) through a comprehensive array of facilities, clinics, and community services, overseen by the five new zones: Central, Eastern-Rural, Eastern-Urban, Labrador-Grenfell, and Western.

NLHS aims to transform the health system to enhance the provision of high-quality health care to all residents of the province. The goal of this transition is to improve the health of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador and to create a more integrated, accessible, technologically enhanced, equitable and sustainable health system.

The transition to one health authority is aligned with the vision put forward by Health Accord NL as an enabling structure to reshape our health-care system. Transition work is ongoing in all areas of the organization in support of improving the health and health outcomes for people in Newfoundland and Labrador.

As a teaching institution, NLHS remains closely affiliated with Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador and has close ties with the College of the North Atlantic and other post-secondary institutions.

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) serves as the strategic and administrative leader of NLHS, who will ensure the highest level of health system performance by effectively overseeing the operations and providing innovative and visible leadership, and managing the delivery of health services. By forging strong and enduring partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders, the CEO will achieve the organization's vision and mission, while also addressing the needs of the residents and communities across Newfoundland and Labrador. There is also a reporting relationship with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, more specifically with the Minister of Health and Community Services.

Every Person.EveryCommunity to fruition, the CEO is responsible for guaranteeing an integrated and sustainable population health approach is delivered in close coordination with a wide range of government, community, and health system stakeholders and partners. A cohesive and positive organizational culture that prioritizes patient safety, continuous improvement, quality, and staff well-being will be fostered by the CEO, who will spearhead system-level transformation that exemplifies and encourages an exceptional dedication to patients, families, and residents in harmony with the responsible management of financial and human resources.

With a fervor for enhancing patient outcomes, care standards, and continuous improvement, the incoming CEO brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record as a strategic and visionary senior leader. Possessing exceptional political and financial acumen along with extensive expertise in reporting to a Board of Trustees, ideally within a healthcare setting, the leader sought has successfully overseen substantial budgets and navigated complex unionized workforces. Respected for inventiveness, authenticity, emotional intelligence, and propensity for action, the preferred candidate is an outstanding communicator and relationship developer who can inspire confidence and trust with a wide range of partners and stakeholders.With deep expertise in population health, coupled with a background in developing integrated healthcare delivery mechanisms, the CEO will effectively harness the strengths of the Board, senior leadership team, physicians, staff, and internal and external stakeholders. A master's degree, professional degree, or equivalent academic preparation is preferred.
