Program Overview - Family Settlement, Community Programs


To provide enhancement to our newcomer settlement services, specifically to address barriers experienced by newcomer and facilitate improved access and connections to supports and opportunities, while fostering social and economic integration.

One on one and group support include orientation, workshops, counselling/coaching, employment and mentoring support, peer support group, as well as information and referrals to appropriate services.

Working in collaboration with our Newcomer Settlement Program and other internal and external partners, coordinate service delivery between settlement, employment, and other women's services.


What You Bring to the Team

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, education, or a related discipline.
  • 2 years of expereince in social service deliver/settlement services as a career and/or settlement counsellor providing settlement services to newcomers.
  • 2 years of experience in counselling individuals with barriers to accessing labour market, preferably in a nonprofit setting.

  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, customer service, coaching, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • A proven track record in handling large caseloads.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of, issues of concern to the immigrants and refugees with ability to communicate to adults, newcomers, persons with disabilities and youth and other clients with various cultures, social and economic backgrounds.
  • Strong counselling skills with an understanding of all aspects of immigrant needs including broad knowledge of settlement services and community resources.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring actions plans.
  • Demonstrated sales and marketing ability and familiarity with community resources.
  • Advanced skills utilizing all Microsoft Office Applications including Outlook and Power Point
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment with limited supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills, and can take initiative, manage change/transitions with the ability to prioritize and multitask and meet deadlines and targets.
  • Good decision making, judgment and problemsolving skills to effectively resolve complex issues.
  • Excellent English communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Second language required: Ukrainian/Russian/Dari/Farsi/Spanish/Urdu strong asset.
  • Ability to learn quickly, adaptable, flexible, resourceful.
  • Certification in Crisis Intervention, Common Assessment tools, I & R training an asset.
  • Other duties may be required.
