Toronto, Ontario, Canada Fallyx Full time

Fallyx is dedicated to developing technology to assist in monitoring and detecting falls among the elderly through the use of IMU sensors and machine learning. Our main objective is to ensure the safety of seniors by continuously observing their movements and promptly notifying the caregiving team in case of a fall, ultimately aiming to make a significant impact on the lives of our users.

Job Description: Senior Hardware Engineer

As a Senior Hardware Engineer at Fallyx, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our current hardware system by designing custom hardware for IMU/location data recording, developing firmware for diverse boards and gateways, and guaranteeing precise and reliable data transmission at all times. You will also have the opportunity to integrate new sensors and IoT devices to enhance system accuracy and reliability, with a focus on custom manufacturing to reduce dependence on external entities.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Hardware System Enhancement: Enhance the existing hardware system through the creation of custom product versions.
  • Firmware Development: Create and optimize firmware for microcontroller-based boards and gateways to capture and send 6-axis inertial data, location details, and touch/temperature readings, ensuring continuous and precise data transmission.
  • PCB Design: Design, develop, and test custom printed circuit boards (PCBs) to support our hardware systems, leading the design and production of these hardware components for self-sufficiency.
  • Circuit Testing: Perform RF circuit testing to ensure reliable wireless communication.
  • BLE and Wi-Fi Protocols: Work on BLE and Wi-Fi protocols to guarantee effective data transmission.
  • Chipsets: Utilize NRF Nordic and ESP32 chipsets in the hardware design and development process.
  • SDK Knowledge: Employ Software Development Kits (SDKs) to expedite development processes.
  • Software Integration: Collaborate with our software team to ensure seamless integration with machine learning algorithms, AWS infrastructure, and other software elements.

Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of practical experience in hardware development and firmware programming.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating production-level products that operate effectively in real-world scenarios for extended periods.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and expertise in microcontroller programming.
  • Experience with IoT devices, sensor integration, and wireless communication protocols such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
  • Proven track record in custom hardware design and manufacturing, including PCB design, RF circuit testing, and knowledge of BLE, Wi-Fi protocols, NRF Nordic, and ESP32 chipsets.
  • Familiarity with relevant SDKs for hardware development.

Location/Job Specifics:

Our office is located in Toronto, Canada, with in-person work preferred, although remote options are available under specific circumstances. This initial contract opportunity may transition into a full-time position with equity and salary compensation based on contract performance, involving 8-hour shifts from Monday to Friday.

Nice To Have:

  • Familiarity with machine learning applications in hardware systems.
  • Understanding of cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS.
  • Knowledge of health monitoring systems and associated regulatory requirements.
