Job Title
Group Medical Underwriter

  • Produce sound underwriting decisions
  • Decisions are made based upon parameters established in RBCI published underwriting guidelines and approved limits.
  • Growth & Profit the incumbent contributes to the attainment of renewal, persistency, sales, and overall financial results.
  • Work in partnership with Group Distribution & Regional offices, develop positive and effective business relationships with clients, 3rd party distribution and proprietary channels and sales consultants across Canada.
  • Provide input to Corporate Underwriting for Policy and Practice rules developed for Medical Group Underwiting
  • Contribute to achievement of team objectives. Manage assigned cases to achieve stated financial outcomes for revenue premium, sales, earnings, reserves and expenses.
  • Effectively communicate and build relationships with all customers
  • Contributes to the achievement of the financial results achieved by the NBO team and the service results achieved by the Group Medical Underwriting team.
  • Deliver dependable, accurate and timely service. Maintain service standards to provide superior client experience.

Job Summary

  • This position is responsible for the Group medical underwriting functions for his/her assigned cases within the Underwriting Division at RBC Insurance. This includes working colaboratively with Client Services, Claims, Sales, and Clients.
The incumbent assesses mortality, morbidity, and health risk through an evaluation process comprised of:
health, occupation and personal history. Strategic priorities encompassed within the role include high quality client service and robust risk structure. The position is accountable for underwriting and risk selection for group business with the mandate of maintaining profitable business.
