The Role

Responsibilities
This position is responsible for various accounting entries, account reconciliations, financial reports and trend analysis.

This position plays a key supporting role for other members of finance including month-end closing and reporting, ad hoc analysis, management allocations, tax reporting and appropriate classification of expenditures in the financial statements.


Analysis and Reporting
-
Analyzing, reporting and monitoring of operational and financial expenditures

  • Liaise with and assist various business units to develop and implement business unit/product line financial reporting
  • Support developing and stewarding various operating and financial results to Management
  • Commodity and Income tax reporting
  • Assist annual regulatory reporting
  • Capital expenditure analysis
  • Assist development of the annual Corporate Plan
  • Balance sheet reconciliations
  • General monthend responsibilities
  • Adhoc analysis if required
  • Financial statement preparation if applicable
  • Prepare/process manual journal entries

Prepare Reconciliations

Run appropriate report for comparison

  • Verify general ledger entries against statements to ensure accuracy
  • Investigate discrepancies by researching all entries and reallocating to the correct general ledger via manual journal entries.

Prepare Disbursements
-
Prepare weekly disbursement reports for review

  • Issue cheque and disburse out payments to brokers/insurers
  • Respond to disbursement related inquiries from various parties

Prepare Deposits
-
Collect and verify all cheques received

  • Code cheques to the correct GL account
  • Deposit cheques on a daily basis

Commodity Tax Reporting

Collect all relevant data to prepare monthly GST/HST/QST for designated companies

  • Review remittances for unusual items/fluctuations from prior months, referring issues to management
  • Remit forms and payments if required
  • Prepare journal entries to record related transactions

What You Bring To The Team

  • 23 years of experience in accounting
  • Accounting designation preferred or desire to obtain (CPA, ACAF)
  • Focus on detail and accuracy with respect to data integrity while working with large volumes of data
  • Excel, Word, PowerPoint proficiency required, familiarity with Lawson would be a definite asset
  • Database knowledge would be an asset
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • University Degree/College Diploma in Accounting preferred
