Our Library System
The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library (TNRL), the biggest Regional District department provides services through 13 locations and a Mobile Library. The TNRL is committed to providing excellent service to patrons for a lifetime of personal growth, learning and enjoyment. The Library offers materials, programs of interest, and resources to people of all ages and abilities.

The Role

_TNRL is seeking two temporary Service Clerks to complete RFID conversion for the library_.

  • Reporting to the Acquisitions & Data Processing Supervisor, the temporary Service Clerks are responsible for:
  • Ensuring that the collection has been fully tagged and those tags properly encoded.
  • Maintaining a high level of quality and productivity to ensure that project work is completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Operating equipment in accordance with approved procedures and project guidelines.
  • Driving to and transporting equipment to all TNRL locations.


Equipped with a mobile RFIP tagging workstation the role requires heaving pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying, repetitive tasks, and standing or walking a full workday.


About the Project

:


After a successful RFID pilot at the Aberdeen Tiny Library, TNRL is moving to a fully RFID-enabled library across all service points.

RFID tags allow library materials to be tracked and communicated by radio waves.

The benefits of RFID include:

  • Time and ergonomic efficiencies in circulation of library materials
  • Reduced theft of library materials
  • Improved ability to inventory library materials
  • The ability to utilize technology such as library vending machines and holds lockers.
The two temporary service clerks will work as a team under the supervision of the Acquisitions & Data Processing Supervisor to RFID tag and encode the entire TNRL collection

  • Grade 12 or GED equivalent
  • Customer service experience
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately and efficiently
  • Attention to quality and detail
  • A passion for helping others and a belief in the importance of literacy
  • Ability to lift 2530 lbs
  • Clean and valid class 5 driver's license

Schedule and worksites

:

  • 70 hours over the two week pay period with a varying work schedule which may include evenings, weekends and overnight stays.
  • Though based out of Library Administration in the Kamloops Library, the incumbents will be required to travel to and work out of libraries across the TNRD.

Compensation & Benefits

  • These are temporary fulltime positions (averaging 70 hours over a 2 week pay period).
    The project is estimated to be completed within 6 months but may be extended or shortened with proper notice.

  • Incumbents will be compensated for travel time within the 70 hours per twoweek work schedule.
These temporary positions fall under the provisions of the Collective Agreement with the British Columbia General Employees Union (BCGEU). Service Clerk is a Pay Grid 3 position with a 2024 pay grid of $18.94-$20.91 per hour. In lieu of benefits, (% lieu % dependent on pension enrolment)
