Labour Relations Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide advice and guidance to Management as needed during labour relations contract negotiations, including drafting proposals and facilitating meetings with union representatives.
  • Oversee collective bargaining procedures, including drafting, reviewing and modifying proposals, verifying legal contract terminology and suggesting additional rules and regulations as necessary.
  • Support the HR Business partners on the management of labour grievances as needed by investigating circumstances of incident, validity of claims, adherence to contract policies and completion of resolution procedures.
  • Provide advisory support to HR business partners on any questions relating to the interpretation of collective agreements or in the management of complex cases requiring labour relations expertise.
  • Develop and present informational briefings for management to improve understanding of labour relations and collective agreements.
  • Assist management during crisis situations, such as labor strikes, to facilitate effective negotiations and resolve issues quickly.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned in order to meet Company objectives.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • University degree in Industrial Relations, Law (labour and employment law profile), Human Resources or equivalent work experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as an expert Labour Relations advisor as well as experience as a spokesperson in the context of the renewal of collective agreements.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and different trends that govern labour relations in Ontario.
  • Previous experience having represented the interests of the employer before administrative tribunals and within the framework of working committees (joint committees, grievance committees,) etc.
  • Successful track record of relationship building and ability to address issues with a winwin approach.
  • Have a demonstrated problem solving and solution oriented approach.
