The Opportunity:

The Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival is one of the flagship programs of Banff Centre.

As one of the world's pre-eminent mountain festivals - and a co-founder of the International Alliance for Mountain Film — the Festival began more than 40 years ago in the small Rocky Mountain town of Banff, Alberta.

What began as a one-day festival of climbing films has now blossomed into a nine-day event in Banff that explores and celebrates what Mountain Culture means to people around the world.

Events include film screenings; film, book, and photography competitions; a filmmaking workshop and mountain marketplace.


The Mountain Culture department at Banff Centre is looking for a Festival Coordinator to assist in the coordination and implementation of the Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival's volunteer program.

Reliable, self-motivated, and highly organized while remaining flexible to changing priorities, the Festival Coordinator demonstrates strong written and oral communication abilities and excellent interpersonal skills when dealing with all stakeholders, partners, and guests.


Roles and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Festival Manager, below are some key accountabilities

  • Assessing program needs, recruiting volunteers, preparing volunteer schedules
  • Developing volunteer information packages, handbook and training, or arranging for training of volunteers
  • Assists marketing and festival management with the recruiting of festival volunteers.
  • Acting as advisor to the Mountain Festival team in the area of volunteer administration
  • Assisting with troubleshooting for guests, media, sponsors, volunteers, and exhibitors as necessary
  • Updating and maintaining festival database records, including importing data and cleaning up duplicates
  • Assisting in followup including thankyou cards, participates in post event meetings and generates an annual volunteer report.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements:

  • University degree within a related discipline
  • Threetofive years' administrative experience
  • Previous experience with events and/or festivals is required
  • Strong computer skills in word processing, Outlook, Excel and databases; web and social media experience is required
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, to lead by example, to problemsolve responsibly, and to communicate clearly and effectively with both internal and external individuals and organizations while working cohesively within a dynamic team
  • Exceptional timemanagement and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at once while still maintaining exemplary attention to detail
  • Knowledge of Banff Centre and the Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival is a definite asset

Special Requirements:

  • Due to the nature of the Festival programming, this position may be required to work an irregular schedule including evenings, holidays, and weekends.

Employment Terms and Benefits:

This position is part time in July, August and September and increases to full-time in October through November

  • This position pays $20.99 and $22.04 per hour working up to 40 hours per week on a rotating schedule.
