The Project Manager will be responsible for planning, managing, and implementing projects in the City's Capital and Strategic Plans, including all project phases such as initiation, planning, execution, control, and closure. The projects vary in complexity, duration, and financial value, aiming to enhance the City's asset portfolio through maintenance, improvements, or additions. Project types may include studies, master planning, implementation, and construction for the enhancement of the City's infrastructure, facilities, and park assets.
Reporting to the Manager of Project Delivery Services, the role involves coordinating and overseeing a wide range of capital and/or strategic projects, managing project teams comprising consultants and internal members, preparing plans and terms of reference, conducting research, analysis, and providing recommendations, monitoring budgets, and representing the City in community engagement and consultations.
This full-time position focuses on building positive relationships with stakeholders, interest groups, clients, and residents, taking a lead role in sharing knowledge within the department as part of continuous improvement efforts.
- Basic Qualifications:
- Completion of a university degree in Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Planning, or a related field
- Formal training in Project Management, PMP certification, or relevant areas of study are advantageous
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing various municipal projects in Public Works, Engineering, Parks, Facilities, and Planning
- Demonstrated project management experience in a municipal government or consultancy
- Considerable expertise in municipal engineering, facilities engineering, or landscape architecture, with knowledge of related disciplines
- Experience in construction, environmental sustainability, tender assessment, contract design, and budget development
- Capability to oversee the preparation of drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for projects
- Proficiency in relevant Acts, bylaws, regulations, and policies
- Skills in coordinating with external agencies, community groups, and integrating their needs
- Proven ability in managing public consultation processes
- Experience with administering contracts using Master Municipal Construction Documents (MMCD) and Canadian Construction Documents Committee (CCDC)
- Environmental knowledge and government agency collaboration are assets
- Familiarity with CAD, GIS mapping, and document management systems
- Enthusiasm for tackling project challenges effectively
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for report and presentation preparation
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Excellent customer service skills with a commitment to professionalism
- Strong organizational abilities
- Membership or eligibility for professional organizations such as Engineers and Geoscientists BC or Society of Landscape Architects
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
