Lead Data Engineer

Seeking a talented and experienced Lead Data Engineer for a investment banking firm to play pivotal role in building and maintaining data infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will be an expert in Spark, Python, and SQL, with a proven track record of coding proficiency in these languages.

Additionally, they should possess extensive AWS expertise, particularly in AWS data tooling such as AWS Glue, EMR, Athena, Redshift, Lake Formation, Apache Spark, Apache Hive, Apache Airflow, S3, CloudWatch, and Lambda.

Experience working with DevOps tooling like Kubernetes and Terraform is highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to support investment strategies and data analysis needs.
  • Develop and optimize data processing algorithms and workflows using Spark, Python, and SQL to extract insights from large and complex datasets.
  • Implement best practices for data quality, security, and governance to ensure the integrity and reliability of data assets.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and investment professionals, to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior members of the data engineering team.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies in data engineering and contribute to the continuous improvement of our data platform.
  • Participate in coding interviews with candidates to assess their proficiency in Spark, Python, and SQL.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven expertise in Spark, Python, and SQL, with a strong emphasis on coding proficiency.
  • Extensive experience with AWS data tooling such as AWS Glue, EMR, Athena, Redshift, Lake Formation, Apache Spark, Apache Hive, Apache Airflow, S3, CloudWatch, and Lambda.
  • Working knowledge of DevOps tooling like Kubernetes and Terraform.
  • Software developer background with experience in designing and implementing scalable and reliable software systems.
  • Excellent problemsolving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to thrive in a fastpaced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
Base - $150-200k CAD + Bonus + Extensive benefits.
