The Opportunity:

  • High School Diploma, plus a two year College Diploma in a related field.
  • Two years of related experience (i.e. business licensing, bylaw compliance, enforcement).
  • Typing speed of 50 wpm.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, in person, public speaking, and telephone.
  • Community Peace Officer and Commissioner for Oaths designation, or ability to obtain same.
  • Current Alberta Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to learn and use software.
  • General understanding of accounting principles.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently in a high paced environment.
  • Ability to prioritize large volumes of varied work and timelines, with constant interruptions.
Excellent customer service skills, including experience assisting difficult customers and the ability to diffuse and resolve issues.

  • Previous experience interpreting bylaws and legislation, and communicating that interpretation to customers and public.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • High degree of personal accountability.
  • Ability to maintain and understand confidentiality for Department and City of Red Deer Business.
  • Must be comfortable attending businesses and homes for inspections, alone.
  • Must be comfortable delivering orders, municipal tags and summonses to offenders who may be unhappy or agitated.

$37.78 to $39.76 per hour.

Hours of Work:

75 hours biweekly, Monday to Friday. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
