The Office of the Integrity Commissioner strives to encourage a culture of integrity and accountability.

The Office is seeking a General Counsel to provide legal advice to the Integrity Commissioner and staff of the Office in relation to all aspects of the Commissioner's jurisdiction, which includes:
MPP Integrity, Lobbyists Registration, Expenses Review, Ministers' Staff Ethical Conduct, Public Service Ethics, and Disclosure of Wrongdoing.

This is a unique and challenging opportunity for a strong leader with experience leading a multi-disciplinary team. Reporting to the Integrity Commissioner, you are a problem solver who thrives in a collaborative environment.

What You Will Do

You will act with integrity to:

  • Oversee all legal matters and investigations for the Office
  • Manage counsel and a team of investigators, which will require you to provide casespecific legal advice and guidance, and include advising on jurisdictional, evidentiary and procedural fairness issues
  • Lead some investigations and crossmandate compliance matters with a particular focus on the disclosure of wrongdoing and lobbyist registration mandates
  • Oversee the final production of investigative reports
  • Participate in Office projects such as drafting annual report sections, online resources, and ethics training sessions
  • Play a key role in oversight of legislative review

How You Will Qualify

You demonstrate excellence because you have:

  • An LL.B. and are a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience practising administrative law and/or regulatory law
  • Significant experience conducting and/or overseeing investigations
  • Management experience leading teams
  • Experience working for a regulator (considered an asset)
  • Strong communication skills and are comfortable leading a team in a fastpaced environment
  • An abiding interest in provincial current affairs, are inquisitive, respectful, and take initiative
  • Superior writing skills, attention to detail, and ability to guide a team on tight deadlines
