Air Canada is looking for an Assistant General Counsel - Loyalty to join our team of professionals.

This role has oversight over all legal aspects of the activities of the Loyalty Group and its business and reports directly to the Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer at Air Canada.


Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for legal advice in all aspects of the programs and agreements related to Aeroplan as they go through their life cycle: supporting the business team in the negotiation and documenting of new agreements; interpretation of these agreements on an ongoing basis; and amending these agreements from time to time.
  • Reviews promotional activities of the Loyalty Group (i.e., adoption of new marketing campaigns and technology).
  • Provides guidance and Legal input to the Loyalty Group on initiatives and projects and shapes the decision making process on key business initiatives.

Responsible for the oversight and monitoring of a number of highly complex legal matters and influences the strategic direction of the loyalty programs.


  • Interfaces with senior management and executives of the Loyalty Group on regular day to day matters and strategic initiatives.
  • Responsible for keeping the Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer at Air Canada up to date on relevant business and legal matters within the Loyalty Group.
  • Often participates in the approach and wording of presentations to stakeholders on the position of Aeroplan with respect to various matters.
  • Interfaces on a regular basis with Tax and Finance.

Qualifications


The position requires an accomplished professional with a record of at least 10 years of operational experience and excellence, knowledge of the legal field, demonstrating core competencies, such as leadership, change orientation, financial or management foundations, and collaboration.

This position requires an expertise in loyalty programs and consumer protection law. That expertise is often called for in special projects at Air Canada.

The Assistant General Counsel - Loyalty is part of the corporate governance program of Air Canada as a reporting issuer under securities law and is required to regularly review a number of legal matters on at least a quarterly basis and in connection with financings.


Integrity (including a strong work ethic, high personal standards, discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information) and professionalism are required.
