The merchandise Planner works closely with buying, acting as the financial backbone of the team and playing a key role in sales analysis, future season planning, in season analysis, and replenishment - all with a focus on profitablilty.

They develop seasonal, monthly and unit plans by department and classifications that are consistent with the goals and objectives of the company plan.

They develop the distribution and allocation details with the senior buyer and operations team, creating patterns and forcasting turnover. The scope includes Pre-season and In-season planning for both Brick and Mortar and E-com channels.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively managing assigned department/class by controlling open to buy, inventory levels and deliveries through communication with the buyer with a goal of maximizing profitability
  • Developing bottom up financial plans that provide a product centric view of the revenue opportunity for each season
  • Ensuring proper analysis of the business from the prior season by preparing postseason hindsight recaps and inseason planning
  • Assisting in the preparation of financial and store analysis as required
  • Utilizing strong communication skills to turn data into actionable strategies and gain buyin from various stakeholders
  • Develop allocation plan that meet the needs of the stores and maintains optimal inventory levels and assortments
  • Execute timely, accurate allocations that will keep stores modeled and replenished through use of reports and analysis
  • Monitor and report on department performance and category performance using key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Review and collect feedback on the effectiveness of the allocations as well as identify opportunities to enhance allocations
  • Plan required merchandise for store openings
  • Determine size curves to use for initial buying and repeated style
  • Store visits
  • Other duties as assigned

Related Work Skills:

  • Must have a great sense of numbers, inventory control and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to prepare business proposals with a blend of focused research, strategy and creativity
  • Must work well independently and in a teamoriented environment
  • Selfmotivated, energetic and able to adapt quickly to change
  • Exercise good judgment
  • Highly effective prioritization, multitasking, and time management skills to meet deliverables

Requirements:

  • Previous merchandise planning experience with a thorough understanding of the retail buying process a must
  • Proven strength in retail math and be able to quickly review and evaluate financial and business indicators and draw out observations and insights. Anticipates business opportunities and risks and recommends alternative and contingency plans to address
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to present ideas clearly and effective in a variety of presentation settings. Takes a position, supported with facts, and lobby for its acceptance. Must be able to support/align with company decisions made that are contrary to personal recommendations
