Our Diagnostic Services team assists a large number of diverse adult and pediatric patients and their families, delivering service in most areas 24/7. Within HHS, Diagnostic Services cover X-Ray, CT Scan, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PET, Ultrasound, and Interventional Radiology.

Position Summary

As a part of a collaborative healthcare team, the Registered Ultrasound Technologist (UT) organizes and conducts various ultrasound examinations, including pediatric and high-risk obstetric scans, and triage tests as needed. The UT is accountable for the technical operations, coordination, and service quality for Ultrasound. Additionally, our UTs collaborate with senior technologists and Radiologists to ensure procedures meet high technical standards. They adhere to the Sonography and CMRITO practice guidelines.

Our Ultrasound Technologists are primed for success with ample opportunities for continuous medical education provided by McMaster Children's Hospital Pediatric and Obstetrical practitioners. These involve scheduled ongoing rounds that all technologists can attend, along with additional training chances in Pediatric MSK ultrasound scans, amniocentesis, and chorionic villus sampling obstetrical guidance processes.

Rotations through other modalities and locations based on qualifications and unit needs may be necessary.

Schedule Work Hours

Rotating shifts covering days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays with standby duty as needed.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a recognized Ultrasonography training program
  • Active member in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO)
  • Hold a Professional Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (DMS) designation
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team setting
  • Effective communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and prioritization skills in a fast-paced clinical setting
  • Evidence of continuous education and professional development participation
  • Preferably a member of CAMRT/OAMRS with IPS certificate
  • Current registration with Sonography Canada is an advantage

As a condition of employment, proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required by Employee Health Services.
