**Job description**
**Canadian Media Guild seeks a Union Representative in the Atlantic Region**
- The Canadian Media Guild, Local 30213 of CWA-Canada, is a democratic trade union that represents over 5000 members across Canada, including employees at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation/ Société Radio-Canada, The Canadian Press and Pagemasters North America, Thomson Reuters, the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN), TVO, TFO, VICE, ZoomerMedia, AFP, CKOF, BuzzFeed, Islington Printing, Canada's National Observer, and Freelance media workers._

The position is responsible for working with union members to administer and enforce collective agreements, lead bargaining, negotiate with management and work to increase participation in the union.

**Major duties include**:

- Support and provide service to members, includes a small to moderate caseload
- Analyze, interpret, and enforce collective agreements
- Handle grievances, negotiate with management, bargain collective agreements
- Chair joint labour-management meetings
- Develop member training and other education as required
- Adept at online, digital archiving and all required administrative tasks

**Qualifications**:

- A demonstrated record of work over several years as a union staff rep in a serving position
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including interpersonal skills, and an ability to encourage member participation
- A demonstrated record of negotiating and bargaining skills
- Must have deep knowledge of the Canada Labour Code and HR processes, and a legal background is an asset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Competency using computer software tools
- Willingness to attend work in the office and travel as needed
- French language proficiency is an asset
- Knowledge of the Canadian media industry is an asset
- Experience handling Long-term Disability files within a unionized environment is an asset

**Compensation**:
Wages and benefits are set according to the provisions of the CMG / CUPE 1281 Employees Union collective agreement (available online).

Salary ranges from approximately $103,000 to $111,000 with additional pay in lieu of pension and benefits. Additional pay for French language proficiency.

- Analyser, interpréter, et appliquer les conventions collectives
- Traiter les griefs, négocier avec la direction, assurer la négociation de conventions collectives
- Présider les réunions conjointes syndicales-patronales
- Élaborer la formation des membres et d'autres types de formations selon les besoins
- Avoir une grande habileté pour l'archivage numérique en ligne et pour toutes les tâches administratives requises

**Qualifications**:

- Une expérience de travail démontrée en tant que conseiller.ère syndical.e pendant plusieurs années dans un poste de service
- Des compétences démontrées en matière de leadership, y compris des aptitudes interpersonnelles et la capacité d'encourager la participation des membres
- Des compétences avérées en matière de négociation y compris la négociation de conventions collectives
- Doit posséder une connaissance approfondie du Code canadien du travail et des processus des RH, et une formation juridique constitue un atout
- D'excellentes compétences de communication en anglais, à l'oral comme à l'écrit
- Des compétences pour l'utilisation d'outils logiciels
- La volonté de travailler au bureau et de se déplacer au besoin
- La maîtrise de la langue française constitue un atout
- Une bonne connaissance de l'industrie canadienne des médias constitue un atout
- L'expérience en traitement de dossiers d'invalidité de longue durée
