The Residential Care Worker:

- works under the direction of the Residential Supervisor to provide a comfortable

home environment where individuals with developmental disabilities can live active

and fulfilling lives.
- works as part of a team to ensure that individuals achieve personally meaningful

goals for independence, community access and skill development.

  • Assists residents with meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills and
personal finance and implements personal service plans.

  • Assists clients with daily living activities such as feeding, lifts, transfers, hygiene,
grooming and toileting. This may include transfer of function duties.

  • Supports residents to locate and access community resources and provides
opportunities for social connections in accordance with their individual service plans.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate in related human/social service field.
  • One (1) year recent related experience.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate.
  • Valid Food Safe certificate.

Valid class 4 BC driver's licence or willingness to obtain.

  • Proof of full vaccination against Covid19 required.

Job Skills and Abilities:

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work as part of a team with a variety of staff, professionals, and other
members of the community.

  • Commitment and interest in the field of service to individuals living with a
developmental disability with preference given to direct experience working in the

field of Community Living.

  • Experience working with people who live with disabilities or mental health
challenges.

Healthcare:
Once they have passed their probationary period, we offer an extended health

program through Group Health to all staff working more than 20 hours a week. The plan

covers MSP premiums, dental, vision, prescription medication, select alternative therapies,

life insurance, and long-term disability. We also have an Employee and Family Assistance

program. The premiums of the plan are 100% employer-paid.***
Vacation & Leave:Employees accumulate 6% vacation pay on all hours worked in the first

and second year of employment. This equals 15 days of holidays (3 weeks/year). After the

first two years of employment, they earn one additional day of vacation per year of service,

to a maximum of 35 workdays.

Retirement Pension:
A full-time employee will be enrolled in the Municipal Pension Plan with

a matching contribution by SSCS after 6 months of employment.***

Compensation:
As per the BCGEU Collective Agreement, the wage is** $25.05 per hour.
