Job Title: Environmental Operations Technician
The Environmental Operations Technician plays a key role in supporting the Sustainability Services onsite program.

This position involves physical tasks like manual labor and forklift operation related to chemical handling, lab pack duties, and drum movements within a designated facility. It focuses on hazardous and non-hazardous waste-related activities at a specific site.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure proper waste segregation and labeling, meet regulatory shipment deadlines, maintain good housekeeping, and keep accurate tracking logs.
  • Segregate, label, mark, and package waste materials safely and compliantly.
  • Handle solid, liquid, and sludge materials through collection, pouring, transferring, consolidating, repackaging, and packaging.
  • Engage in labor-intensive activities such as container/drum collection, drum bulking, trash sorting for recyclables, and truck loading.
  • Provide labor support for organizing and maintaining waste staging areas when needed.
  • Adhere to the use of necessary personal protective equipment, including wearing a respirator.
  • Participate in safety processes, follow procedures, attend training, and report any safety concerns promptly.
  • Comply with environmental, safety, and transportation regulations (EPA, OH&S, TDG) while following the Environmental and Quality Management Systems.

Qualifications:
The following qualifications are necessary for this role:

A. Education and Experience

  • Education: Associate's Degree (accredited) or High School Diploma/GED (accredited) with 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience: None required (in addition to education).

B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

  • O. Reg 347 and TDG regulatory compliance experience strongly preferred.
  • Forklift Experience (Certification) preferred.

C. Other Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities Required

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal direction.

Work Environment:
Key points regarding environmental demands and work environment:

  • Motor coordination with finger dexterity required most of the day.
  • Physical effort in handling objects up to 50 pounds most of the day.
  • Exposure to occupational risks like cuts, burns, and chemicals most of the day.
  • Exposure to elements like dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes most of the workday.

Normal setting: Manufacturing facility.
