Department, Unit or Project Description:


The mission of the MacPherson Institute is to collaborate to explore, enhance, support, and recognize teaching and learning experiences at McMaster.

Specifically, the Institute partners with, supports, and connects diverse groups of educators by: 1) creating and delivering professional development that engages educators throughout their careers in teaching and learning in order to enhance the student learning experience; 2) facilitating curriculum development and revision that fosters continuous enhancement and engagement in learning; 3) supporting, conducting and recognizing teaching and learning scholarship that has the capacity to develop, inform, and enhance educational initatives and student learning; and 4) encouraging and elevating the pedagogical use of educational technologies and creative solutions to enhance teaching and learning.

Job Summary:

Responsible for the design, development and delivery of course content and develop methods to assess and evaluate student progress. Complete formative and summative evaluation of students.

Accountabilities:

  • Develop an instructional plan for the course and complete precourse preparation including preparation for online course site and resources.
  • Teach the course including preparing and delivering lectures, leading classroom (inclass or online) discussions and working with student groups.
  • Assess student progress by creating, administering and grading tests and exams, as well as developing and grading assignments.
  • Supervise teaching assistants, including coordinating the submission of onboarding documents, monitoring office hours and communications with students
  • Adhere to the requests of the administrative office for timely submission of contracts and student grades.

Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study with a professional designation or Master's Degree is preferred.

Experience:
Teaching experience is preferred. At least 3 years of relevant experience.

Assets:

  • Familiarity with one or more models of reflection (e.g., What/So What/Now What, DEAL, 4Rs).
