Your role

ICI Alberta is looking for an Associate Producer/Researcher who will play a key role in creating and promoting our radio content. The position is based in Edmonton and will be assigned primarily to the drive-home show.

Reporting to the Executive Producer, Radio, and your show's producer, you will act as a reporter/researcher assigned primarily to preparing a radio program. This will involve the following tasks: researching story ideas and preparing research packs (intros, angles, questions and follow-ups); chasing and booking guests; and writing and presenting stories on air. You may be asked to write copy to showcase and promote program content across all our digital platforms as well as to pitch story ideas that you can develop, present on-air and also deliver on our other platforms.

Work is governed by CBC/Radio-Canada's Journalistic Standards and Practices and programming policies, but there is latitude for initiative, creativity and independent judgment.

We are looking for a creative self-starter with sound news judgment and experience researching and preparing content for audiences across multiple platforms. You must have an understanding of CBC/Radio-Canada's Journalistic Standards and Practices as well as a grasp of emerging trends in radio programming and formats.

Key tasks:

Pitch story ideas and chase guests to meet daily and long-term needs. Organize the participation of interviewees, develop background, introduction and line of questioning; conduct or arrange for any necessary research; and ensure the briefing of hosts personally or in writing. Maintain contact files (Contacto). Attend assignment and production meetings. Present original stories on air and take part in impromptu roundtable discussions with the team. Write and post online articles to promote show content. Organize the participation of interviewees, creative contributors and other guests.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

University degree or equivalent Relevant experience during which you would gain exposure to journalism and the technology used at CBC/Radio-Canada Demonstrated writing skills Demonstrated ability to chase and book French-speaking guests, and synthesize information for hosts in a briefing document Proven, tested on-air skills High level of concentration and organization Strong news judgment under tight deadline conditions Ability to develop and maintain a network of relevant sources Strong news sense, especially Franco-Albertan news and current affairs, as well as good knowledge of Canadian and international stories Thorough familiarity and understanding of CBC/Radio-Canada's Journalistic Standards and Practices Bilingualism (English and French) Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills Solid organizational skills; ability to handle a variety of functions quickly and efficiently, occasionally at the same time Ability to solve problems independently and through group discussions (open to new ideas and approaches) Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada production applications (Scoop, iNews and Dalet) an asset Ability to work effectively under pressure to tight deadlines

Please submit your application in French and include additional documentation or a link to your online demo or website, blog or video in your cover letter.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.

We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
