Job Title: Managing Lawyer at Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission


Company Overview: Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission (NSLAC) is dedicated to providing legal aid services to Nova Scotians, with a focus on assisting vulnerable and historically disadvantaged individuals in the practice areas of criminal, family, and social justice law.


Location: Sydney, Nova Scotia


Salary: Based on Relevant Experience including Managing Lawyer Compensation


Who we are: NSLAC employs staff across various offices in the Province, with a mission to help clients overcome access to justice barriers and protect individual rights through important litigation.


Primary Functions:

  • Manages a regional office and ensures quality legal services delivery
  • Provides guidance and leadership to staff, implementing NSLAC policies
  • Participates in the overall management of NSLAC

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervisory and management skills
  • Resource and financial management
  • Planning, organizing, and problem-solving skills
  • Leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Legal information presentation and interpretation
  • Experience in decision-making and team collaboration

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) Degree
  • Practicing member in good standing with a provincial law society for a minimum of five years
  • Extensive court experience
