The Role:

The
Geophysicist - Well Delivery supports CNOOC's strategy to maximise production from our three key UK assets. A busy program of infill drilling lies ahead that requires opportunity identification, justification, planning and successful execution.


Based in either the
Uxbridge or
Aberdeen office, reporting to the
Well Delivery Manager, you are responsible for defining and undertaking the geophysical scopes for safe and efficient drilling, ensuring that high quality analysis lies at the heart of our operational programs.

You carry out technical work from the moment an opportunity becomes suitable for well planning, through to post drilling analysis, working in a collaborative way with Asset and Drilling teams.

During operations you are responsible for monitoring, reporting on and reacting to events as they take place, providing expert technical analysis and recommendations.

Once drilling is complete you contribute to post well performance reviews.

In addition, you undertake project management of tasks required of the CNOOC Well Delivery Process, creating, and stewarding to a plan.

You share learnings, coach more junior members and influence change to improve our performance. Out of office hours working will be required at times.

You will:

  • Ensure Subsurface aspects of Well Delivery are appropriately assured, and that geological risks and mitigations are clearly articulated to the drilling team.
  • Technical Delivery:_
  • Be responsible for delivery of expert Geophysical analyses required for the progress of opportunities through the well delivery process (WDP), from target identification through to post drilling reviews.
  • Manage and prioritise delivery of your work for upcoming operations; juggle multiple projects at different stages of maturity and collaborate effectively across subsurface and drilling teams.
  • Use geophysical interpretation and other techniques to ensure a shared, clear understanding of reservoir and overburden hazards, surface location and target selection. Work alongside other disciplines define and optimise well trajectories to ensure safe and completable wells.
  • Undertake predrill well prognosis and populate well design documents. Define target uncertainty and provide clear forward predictions using appropriate geophysical techniques.
  • Participate in, and generate documentation for, various presentations and reviews as part of our Well Delivery and Corporate processes, including peer assists, technical assurance reviews, stage gate reviews, operational meetings, coventurer external reporting.
  • Undertake realtime monitoring of wells while drilling, reporting as required, and delivering technical analysis and recommendations in response to events as they unfold. This may require outofoffice hours working at times, including weekends.
  • Share progress, and technical work across functions as appropriate, including lesson learned.
