Position Summary
Cambrian College's Centre for Smart Mining requires a Research and Development Technologist (Electrical) on a full-time basis.
Note: Internal candidates, as defined by the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement, will be given first consideration.
Duties and Responsibilities
Work on applied research projects with a focus on electrical, hardware, and software.Assist with data collection, literature searches, and data compilation for project scoping.Develop experimental systems design, development, fabrication, and maintenance procedures.Develop software and IoT solutions, LTE and wireless enabled solutions, and 3D models.Utilize software programs such as SCADA and programming for PLCs.Assist with the coordination of research activities associated with industrial electrical and control systems in the lab and within the field.Work with technicians and other research personnel, where relevant, to ensure appropriate and safe use of materials, equipment and/or facilities.Operate and maintain specialized equipment to ensure proper and timely calibrations and operation.Exemplify, promote, and develop safe work behaviours; provide direct coaching to improve researcher's safety behaviours; perform safety incident investigations recommending corrective actions to eliminate recurrencesMeet with industry partners who are working with Cambrian R&D and the Centre for Smart Mining.Provide direction and support to students on electrical and software projects in Cambrian R&D and the Centre for Smart Mining.Evaluate and maintain equipment and supply inventory; monitor project budgets, make recommendations prior to purchase.Qualifications
Required
Must have a three-year postsecondary diploma or degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, instrumentation, or equivalent.(A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application*** education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application).Experience in one or more of the following areas: web application, desktop application, mobile application, IOT application, hardware, or CAN bus.One year of experience working with electrical and instrumentation product development and electronic solutions in industry or an applied R&D setting.Some experience in web, mobile, or IoT application development.Strong hands-on skills in electrical and in various technologies.Must be an energetic self-starter with excellent organizational, time-management, technical and analytical skills.Possess the ability to balance several complex and ongoing tasks, flexibility and adaptability and the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure, high-demand environment with constantly changing prioritiesSuperior written and oral communication skills and maintain a high standard of professionalism.Collaborative professional who promotes teamwork and works cohesively within a team-oriented environment.Additional Asset/Preferred
