Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical design support to the engineering department with specific focus on mechanical design engineering. Good understanding of Electrical, Structural, and Controls engineering is a benefit.
  • Design product assembly lines with Production coordinators (PCs)/engineering, ensuring all associated admin work is addressed in advance of the construction kick off.
  • Be involved in various aspects of the business including support for estimating, business development, production improvements, and marketing.
  • Develop new and innovative product lines and refine existing products.
  • Design, develop, and test AHU and MDC (SRM & PRM) products like:
    • Selection of fans, coils, and equipment components associated with air handling equipment.
    • Costing of units and components.
    • Production of equipment drawings and submittal packages.
    • Review of unit construction drawing packages
    • Design of custom air handling equipment to client's specifications.
    • Design of computer room air handling units to client specifications.
    • Design development and value engineering assistance of data centers and modular data centers to support client specific needs.
  • Specialize in mechanical design, Psychrometrics, Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, and Thermodynamics, applicable codes and standards, and HVAC industry design practices.
  • Review, evaluate, and improve engineering schematics and specifications ensuring safe, efficient, and practical designs.
  • Interact with production; conduct inspections of units under construction. Recommend acceptance, improvements, or rejection of completed designs.
  • Create and implement standard specification languages and procedures for mechanical engineering projects. Improve operations, reduce turnaround times, and optimize processes to provide quality engineering services.
  • Verify and validate engineering designs by testing protocols and analyzing statistical data.
  • Assist with project plans, project costing, and coordinating efforts with other team members.
  • Collaborate with different departments to ensure project success.
  • Evaluate mechanical components for performance, cost, and lead times.
  • Determine project cost estimates. Ensure compliance with standards and legislation.

Qualifications:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree (BSc. Eng., B.Eng.).
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation.
  • Five or more years of related experience.
  • 3+ years of related experience in HVAC design required, including knowledge in equipment and system selection, design, and control.
  • Additional experience in metal fabrication and/or manufacturing is an asset.
  • Membership or eligible for membership with APEGA.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD software is essential.
  • Ability to integrate new technologies into machines.
  • Ability to converse and collaborate with multiple departments.
  • Competence in designing according to industry codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of risk analysis and legislative compliance.
  • Experience in managing large project budgets.
  • Practical experience with risk management, product design and testing, estimating, and project management.
  • Motivated and capable of multi-tasking, working with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office productivity suite.
    Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
