This position is currently a hybrid, 6 month position, where you are expected to attend the Toronto or Ottawa office at least 2 days a week.

The Position:
The Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association Inc.

(CLHIA) has an opening for an Accounting Policy and Reporting Specialist to fill a 6-month contract, working hybrid out of our Toronto or Ottawa office.

Reporting to the Vice President, Taxation, Pension and Reporting, the Accounting Policy and Reporting Specialist is responsible for work on financial reporting related issues, such as responding to exposure drafts issued International Accounting Standards Board's (IASB) and the Accounting Standards Board (AcSB) in Canada.

This includes climate and sustainability reporting requirements for the industry. The individual would also help coordinate and support facilitating working group meetings with members on accounting and reporting matters.
Please note this role is not handling accounting duties for the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association.

What you will be working on:

Monitoring external developments at the IASB, AcSB, Canadian and International sustainability and climate change standards as well developments at the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI).

Identifying key issues of interest and concern and the potential impacts to the industry in order to develop policy options, make recommendations and contribute to/prepare policy related documents (e.g. reports, submissions).Supporting efforts to build consensus on industry policy positions, including through supporting member company committees and working groups.

Contributing to the work of CLHIA committees and working groups by working closely with CLHIA's staff, members and other stakeholders to build consensus on industry policy positions.

Contributing to or preparing submissions or other briefings to advance the industry's interests with regulators and other stakeholders.

What you will bring:
