Work Arrangements:

We are currently working remotely, and we will be moving to a hybrid model when our office renovation is complete (approximately September 2023), coming into the office a minimum of 2 days per week, every other week on designated days.


What you will be doing:

  • Consolidated quarterly and annual reporting of IFRS earnings & associated balance sheet changes for the Company
  • Consolidated projections of IFRS earnings & associated balance sheet changes for Business Plan and to support other purposes including Financial Condition Testing and the ORSA process
  • Consolidated quarterly and annual reporting of LICAT for the Company
  • Consolidated projections of LICAT for Business Plan and to support other purposes including Financial Condition Testing and the ORSA process
  • Nonpar valuation (IFRS 17 & 9) for all lines of business
  • Working with the Appointed Actuary and Chief Risk Officer, develop, maintain & communicate guidance for valuation and capital modelling for pricing and other modelling purposes across the Company
  • Capital management for the Company including recommendations for optimization
  • Accounting policies & position papers as assigned
  • Monitor competitor activity with respect to IFRS reporting & capital management and regularly providing updates to Senior Management
  • Develop and maintain IFRS systems and controls/audit requirements including:
  • AXIS IFRS 17 non-par valuation models; IFRS 9 liability models, RiskIntegrity, RiskMap
  • Develop and maintain reports/dashboards and other key indicators related to the above for key stakeholders and communicate/present as needed
  • Regulatory reporting requirements supporting the AA Report, Life & LICAT Returns, Annual Report and AMF requirements
  • Inputs as required to support Corporate Finance, Corporate Actuarial, Chief Risk Officer, Investment Division and Line of Business Finance/Actuarial teams
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of relevant regulatory policies and guidelines
  • Participate in relevant industry committees and working groups
  • Build and maintain relationships with industry associations, professional associations, and insurance industry peers

What you will bring:

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the financial services industry with exposure to actuarial and finance functions
  • FSA/FCIA designation required
  • Deep knowledge of actuarial and investment principles and practices including actuarial valuation, stress testing and assetliability management
  • Knowledge of financial reporting standards and requirements for Canadian life insurance companies
  • Experience with regulatory capital requirements for Canadian life insurance companies
  • Strong knowledge of insurance and wealth product design and pricing
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Several years management experience leading large teams
  • Strong influencing and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills including ability to explain technically complex issues concisely across various stakeholder groups
  • Abstract, strategic, and forwardlooking thinker (over a multidecade time horizon)
